"SEARCH" function problems
Heya
I've been very impressed with the "SEARCH" function in the past, that I could do a search on say, Toledo, and any post that contained the word Toledo it would seem anywhere in the body of the text would come up. The other day though after posting a report on the Canada forum on Kingston, I was curious how many other people had done posts on that city and did a search in that forum with the word "Kingston", but was baffled my post did not appear particularly since the word Kingston was in the title and the word Kingston was repeated several times in the text. I'm wondering if others have seen this problem and who I should contact to bring this to their attention. Knowing little about programming, I have no idea if this is a simple problem to fix. |
New posts can take time to be included in the search. Some here have said you may need to wait 24hrs. It could be that Fodors indexes the forums only once in a while, and the search references said index. |
I think I'd noticed before that it seemed like ca. 24-hour delay. The post I did though was 8 days ago; maybe things are busy or they've changed the indexing frequency to biweekly or monthly perhaps as you say.

Seems strange. If you have an official questions, [email protected] is the way to go. Not sure you'll get anywhere with it, but it's about your only avenue.

Thanks jlm_mi,
I wrote a letter (almost a cut-and-paste of this post) mentioning the problem. DAN |
Here was my reply from the Fodor's Editors that I received today for those who may have been curious:
Hi Daniel, The search engine is actually in need of an overhaul and we are planning some big changes over the next few months to make the web site more searchable and more user-friendly. Thank you for being a part of the Fodor's community and sharing your feedback with us. Fodors.com |
