Seal Beach vs San Clemente for a beach afternoon?
 

Thank you to those of you on the other thread that helped me narrow down to these two.

I'm going to be in Anaheim for a trade show, and have a couple afternoon-evenings free (from about 1:30 on) and would like to get out to a beach town by transit. I can do Seal Beach by bus (about 75 min) or San Clements by train (about 60 min).

Any comments on these two options would be much appreciated! Thank you.

I would check the return times and how often the services run, also where does the bus/train let you off, are you a long way to the beach, or other attraction?

Either one would be a nice visit, I would just base it on convenience.

Thanks. I've got times and everything worked out (I printed off some schedules) - Seal Beach is a bit longer and have to switch buses once - other than that they seem about the same.

The two towns have different aspects to the sea.San Clemente sits on a bluff above the ocean The beach and rail lines are the bottom of an eighty foot rise.
Seal beach has little change in elevation towards the sea.
Both towns have piers and nice beaches.The ride to San Clemente would be more interesting, during the last few miles you travel directly next to the Pacific.

Thank you! That helps a lot - I love scenery like that (bluffs and such) so will probably go with San Clemente.

The other advantage to San Clemente is that the trains stops directly in front of the San Clemente Pier and the popular part of the beach extends in both directions from the pier. One caution - Be sure the in-bound and out-bound trains you want to use actually stop at San Clemente. Not all of the AMTRAK trains between Anahiem and San Diego do. If not, the closest stop would be San Juan Capistrano and that would be about a 7-8 miles taxi ride to San Clemente Pier.
