SEA to Tsawwassen

We have approximately 24 hour to drive from Sea-Tac to Tswwassen. What would be a short side trip, as well a nice place to stay? We arrive at Sea-Tac around 2PM and need to be at Tswwassen terminal to catch the 2:30PM ferry to Salt Spring Island the following day.

Where in the world is Tswwassen? It isn't on my Washington map.

Tsawwassen is just south of Vancouver, BC.

A short side trip could be Bellingham (especially with a drive on Chuckanut Drive) on the way up, or you could stop in Everett for the Boeing tour, or you could always just spend the day in Vancouver.

I vote for a night in Vancouver, it's a beautiful place. Stay near Robeson Street...go to Stanley Park...have a great meal in one of the city's fine restaurants.

If that's not for you, check out Semiahmoo Resort in Blaine, WA, just south of the Canadian border.

I like the Chuckanut Drive and Semiahmoo ideas. If it were up to me, I would drive north on I-5 to the Mukilteo ferry, then take the half-hour ferry ride to Clinton, on Whidbey Island. There are lots of B & Bs (http://www.whidbeyislandbandb.com/bedandbreakfasts.html), as well as some great inns, such as the Inn at Langley. We stayed there for our last anniversary, and it was quite romantic, with a seaside room, gourmet dinner, and nicely-appointed rooms.

The next day, leave Langley after breakfast, cruising up Whidbey Island, across the spectacular Deception Pass Bridge, onto Fidalgo Island, then the Swinomish Channel Bridge back to the mainland. If time allows, you can pick up Chuckanut Drive here, then swing back onto I-5 to the Canadian Border, and on to Tsawwassan.

The that ALF suggests would be a very nice trip indeed - especially if you included the Chuckanut Drive portion.

Whether you should go out of your way for Chuckanut Drive depends a bit on where you're from and where you've been. We love this short stretch of road along Puget Sound (most is taken up by rail road). However, if you are from the Oregon Coast, Big Sur, or some such place, you may wonder what all the excitement is about.

Ah, that's because you don't know where to stop to look at the ancient giant fern fossils!
