Sea-Tac to Port Townsend
I'll be flying into Seattle soon and need to drive to Port Townsend -- I understand that there's a multi-year effort to refurbish the Hood Canal Bridge. Should that lead me to take an alternative route? Or should I drive around Tacoma, or take the Bainbridge ferry, and still cross the bridge? Thanks for any local advice.

What time of day and what day of week? Makes a difference.

A Thursday, arriving about 12:30pm. Gardyloo, I was hoping you would chime in and guide me. (-:

I'm sooo predictable ;)
Drive downtown, ferry to Bainbridge, take the Hood Canal Bridge. |
Considering you are arriving at SeaTac during a time highways should not be too busy, the fastest way to Port Townsend would be via Tacoma and the Narrows Bridge. However, the ferry from Seattle to Winslow shortens the drive and, on a clear day, it is a beautiful crossing.

The Hood Canal Bridge is undergoing significant construction work...so check to see if there is anything that would impede traffic going on the day you plan to drive. Drivers in the Hood Canal Bridge area can tune to 530 AM, Highway Advisory Radio, or call 1-877-595-HCB2 (4222) for more information
