Sea Mist in Myrtle Beach, SC

Has anyone every stayed at the Sea MIST oceanfront resort in Myrtle Beach, SC. I received infor in the mail today it looked nice and the price seem reasonable. Is it as nice as the brochure? Thanks. We are trying to decide on a trip for this summer, we usually go for a week or more while the kids are out of school (7 & 10) and thought this looked good. Even though we are from South Jersey by the beach, we don't get to go that much. We have already been to Virginia Beach several years ago and last year we did Maine, N.H., Vermont and Lake George. Any ideas would be great. We just did a week at Disney World in November so that is out.

Don't know how it is now, but when we stayed there a few years ago the rooms were run-down; i.e., shabby carpet, musty smell in room, etc. It's spread out with buildings across the street from each other. The Sea Mist has its own small water park onsite, suitable for younger children, and a small amusement park down the street.

Dawn,

Myrtle Beach is a favorite family destination. I am sure with a 7 & 10 year old you will like it.

You may want to do some research on this site (use Myrtle Beach or South Carolina as your search term, and be patient as it can take a while for past threads to come up).

That said, I highly recommend Kingston Plantation, an oceanfront resort with condos, villas and hotel. Just so you know, my connection with this resort is simply that my wife & I have stayed there several times over the years. We now live about 5 miles north of the resort. Also, I have never seen a negative comment about it.

More generally, I would recommend staying north of about 5th Avenue North, to be closer to the attractions you'll probably want to see.

If you have particular questions, I (and others I am sure) will try to answer them.

Have a great time!

I have also stayed at the Kingston Plantation... We had a nice 2 bedroom villa. One room had 2 twin beds and the other had a queen size bed and private bathroom; we also had a full kitchen and screened patio. It was very nice and very relaxing.

My family & I have stayed at Sea Mist twice. The last time was two years ago. We loved it - especially the Tides building right on the ocean with your own patio area.

We stayed there several years ago and it was terrible. Hope they have made mucho improvements since then.

Dawn:

It just depends on your standards for a hotel. I have only stayed at the Palm Crest. A very small oceanfront family motel and saw the Sea Mist when walking around the area. There were children on intertubes riding a maze. There is also a water park not far away (within walking distance) that is huge along with a small amusement park within walking distance also. Myrtle Beach in the summer can get crowded and to spend all kinds of time in a vehicle is silly. I would recommend a junk store really called "Pink Dolphin or Dolphin." It has junky souvenirs but it's fun to look through. There is also skeet ball and an arcade.
