SD hoteals- thoughts on Pleasant Point vs Hyatt Islandia or other ideas?

A family contingent from East Coast is heading to SD in mid-Aug for 3 or 4 nights. Mid-30's couple w/ 4&6 yo girls, cool grandparents and single aunt. Trying to figure out where to stay that will make all happy. Need to access to actvities like Sea World, Horton Plaza, La Jolla and wherever else suggested, but also want to swim and relax. Have friends in Del Mar but don't want to be that far out of town. Will have 2 cars so we can split up. Like very nice hotels but no need to stay at most expensive. Have loved other Noble House properties (PP is Noble House). Any suggestions or first hand info on the above mentioned? PS 1st part of trip will take us to Loews Santa Monica. Thanks for constructive info!

Dear Edye:

Take a look at the Pacific Terrace Inn. They have reall large rooms and some family rooms, some with kitchenettes. They serve a nice breakast downstairs and have a heated swimming pool and jacuzzi. It sits right at the beach separated by a wall with glass and then a path. We saw lots of kids there last year. Soem rooms have balconies. it is a great place. I think is is Mission Beach area. Not a very large place but has some really nice features. Staff was very good and helpful. We came without a reservation on Thanksgiving and they found us a super restaurant for dinner - the marine Room in La Jolla. Ask for specials. Have a great time.

We stayed at Pleasure Point several years ago. Since then it has been remodelled an is significantly more expensive. We like the grounds, well-landscaped with several pools. Great for kids that need lots of space to run around. You can walk to the path that goes around Mission Bay and to a small bay beach but not to the ocean.

Consider the Hotel Del or Coronado Marriot. Everyone will love the beach and the grandparents and single aunt will love strolling through coronado. You your wife and the single aunt will also like the ferry access to downtown where the single life and good bars and restaurants are. The Del is on the beach and the Marriot faces the bay but with a great panoramic view of the city. La Jolla is about 30 minutes from Coronado but if you're only going there once or twice the driving is no big deal. There is a Loews Coronado also but it's kind of isolated about four miles south of Coronado on the little strip of land (Silver Strand) that connects Coronado to south san diego. The PP is in Mission Bay Park and has been recently renovated. It can get crowded on Ingraham st (access to PP) in August because of beach and Sea World Traffic but that's not a bad choice either.

We stayed at the Loews Santa Monica Hotel and did not think it was worth the money. If you got a good price then go for it, but we paid over $300.nt. in the summer, and it was definetly not worth that.We went with our 2 kids and the room was on the small side-the balcony was a standing room only. The beach was across the street, and was very noisy due to construction at the time. The pool area was very nice though.Atmosphere there was kind of "snooty",and food there very expensive. We ended up leaving early and going down to San Diego-stayed at the Embassy Suites which was very nice.
