scuba - big island/kaua'i

Hi there,

I've been to HI a few times, but this will be the first time I've been there with my scuba certification. I've read about the manta ray dives at night on the big island (I think I may be too chicken for them...). Is there any diving on Kaua'i? I know of the snorkelling, but haven't heard about any diving.

Thanks for the info.

Not a diver myself, but have heard the best is to take a dive tour over to the forbidden island. Search the internet for companies that do this.

Don't pass up the Manta dive!!!!..
Took one a few years ago with Jacks Dive Locker out of Kona, it was awesome. I'm not sure where they go now, since location they used then isn't used now, but I have heard that they have found another site just as good. This was my first night dive and found it to be no problem at all.
Kneeling on the bottom at 30 feet, having a dozen or so 12 foot Mantas doing barrel rolls right in front of you..following your light beam, then at the last second, pulling up and flying inches over your head...it was just incredible. Also the Moray eels out feeding, swimming around the divers feet was an added thrill.

On kauai, the sheraton caves is a great place to dive. Cool cave formations with a lot of green sea turtles.

I did the night Manta ray dive as my first night dive on the BI. I loved it, one of my most memorable activities of our whole trip. It is not that dark as there are lots of people and boats with lights. Do not pass this up, you will thank me when you get back.

Have fun,

Scott

Just came back from Kauai and husband dove with OceanQuest. They do a two tank shore dive at Tunnels Beach. Said they were very good with the newbie divers. :)

The owner of my scuba shop back home, where I'm doing classwork and poolwork recommends Bubbles Below - has dove with them and says they are great. My husband is doing his referral dives with them in December.
