Scottsdale-need both hotel and golf recommendations

I am trying to plan a golf getaway for my husband's 50th birthday. We are from the pacific northwest and have never been to Arizona. So I am starting from scratch, knowing nothing. I have been looking at some maps of where hotels are located. I was looking at the Four Seasons because I thought from the location it might have good mountain views and scenery? But it looks like it might be a little over our budget. I would rather spend most of my money on him getting to play a couple of highly ranked golf courses than on just the room :-) So does anyone know of a resort that would have the mountain views I am looking for? and what golf courses are the best ones in the Scottsdale area? It will be the first part of December. Will the fees be a lot higher than? Thank you for any information you can give me!

I love The Royal Palms Resort. They don't have golf on site, but it is a beautiful place. Check out this thread:

Good deals can be had in early December. Sign up for newletter at Royal Palms website and also perfectescapes.com

First time we stayed there, we got a great deal just before Christmas through hotels.com

It's sometimes hard to get a tee time without staying at the resort you want to play. When are you going? They overseed in the winter - double check the dates - and the summer is hellishly hot. DH went last October and stayed at the Hilton Tapatio with his Dad. It's all suites and the golf course was good. One of the major golf mags rated it highly. They might be able to arrange tee times at the fancy schmancy places for you. And it's more affordable. Boulders would have been my choice if I was joining him.

Check the overseeding dates! Most of the courses close or have temp greens. I can't remember wnen they do it - i'm thinking Nov - Dec but not sure.

The views and grounds are fabulous at the Camelback Inn.

The Phoenician Resort is fabulous, but spend the extra for the nice views!

Thanks for the ideas, any other ideas as far as what resort would have great mountain views from any room, not just the higher priced rooms? :-)
