Scottsdale for Business in 2 Weeks
 

Hello all. I'll be traveling to Scottsdale for business in about 2 weeks. Will be there for about 5 days. Staying at the Marriott McDowell Mountain (any thoughts on this?). Since I'll be dining by myself most evenings, any recs in Scottsdale where I might be most "comfortable" solo? I'm going to be exhausted so don't really want to travel far for dinner (I'll have a car) -- at most 10 or 15 mins. Cost not an issue.

Ok... call me impatient but... anyone have anything for me?? I'm traveling to London before then so need info soon, if possible. :(

Ok...I'm just going to be a big pain the, well, you know... anyone have recs? I just found out I have to be there one week earlier so I'll be there next week! :@

you'll probably hate my response - becasue I don't know the area well enough to recommend dining options. BUT - if you need some R&R from all that work there are two great art shows inthe area Jan. 21-23. Carefree which is just north of Scottsdale and a nice, beautiful community has a fabulous show right in the center of towm. GREAT artists there. Also on Jan. 22 and 23rd there is a good show at The Summit at Scottsdale on Scottsdale Rd. (there is a Pei Wei there - casual, good Chinese - and an Italian restaurant, but I forget the name).

I travel to Phoenix all the time solo for business. I love the buffet at Camelback Inn - ask for a table by the window ( it's great here if you are alone because you can go fast or slow and the view is great)and get there before the sun sets. Check out the gift shop before you leave.Also, I enjoy Roaring Fork (not cheap)and the little Mexican retsaurant inside Camelback. Right up the road from Marriott Mountain Shadows and Camelback, there is a great little supermarket/deli where you can pick up prepared foods to go. It's at the intersection of Lincoln and Scottsdale Road just after the gasoline station. I simply can not think of the name of it, sorry ( maybe AJ's but I'm not 100% sure).The Good Egg on Scottsdale is good for breakfast or lunch. If you have time, drive down to Carefree(about 30 minutes). Cceck out the Boulders and have lunch/dinner anywhere in town there. I also enjoy Los Sombrero's Mexican.

Thank you so very much Artist and Emily. Artist, I'll have a little time on Saturday 1/22 so I'll take your suggestion and head over to the art show in Carefree (how appropriately named!). Anyone have any opinions on the Marriott McDowell Mountain?

I'm like a broken record on the subject but Elements at Sanctuary on Camelback is a very nice upscale restaurant with Asian influences. Especially gorgeous at sunset. Check out the Sactuary on Camelback website for pics. The restaurant looks directly onto Camelback over the hotel's infinity pool.

BTW- two intersecting streets in Carefree are Ho and Hum.

Really?!?! That's too funny :D ! I wish we had such "carefree" street names here in Manhattan. For my second trip to Scottsdale, I've been reserved at the Scottsdale Marriott Old Town. Any opinions on this one? Still looking for opins. on the McDowell Mountain (which, per Travel Advisor, received very good ratings).

Just as an FYI, my second trip to Scottsdale will be at the beginning of Feb! I should know the place like the back of my hand after all these back-to-back trips!!

If you are in Old Town stop at Pishcke's (spelling?) for breakfast and hop up on a barstool. I have enjoyed a Sunday morning breakfast chatting with the locals and the waiters, reading a paper and munching down on bananas foster french toast!
