I'm sorry you aren't getting any info. Your request ("help with things to do") is a bit broad and much has been covered before.

I suggest you type a variety of topics in the "Search this forum" box at the top of this page(Scottsdale shopping, Scottsdale golf, Scottsdale restaurants, Scottsdale nightlife, hiking Camelback) to get started then come back with specifics.

Will you be alone? With a family? Romantic getaway? Are you into outdoor adventure or do you want to sightsee by car? Are you into Mexican food? Sushi? We need details Rich!

Also, if you go to Destinations in the ugly orange banner at the top then click Arizona and then Phoenix/Scottsdale there is some info to help as well.

Amwosu,
Thanks for the tips. We just decided on this area at the last minute. We are doing Scotland and England earlier in the year. I will try to get some more specifics, but to fill in a few blanks now:

It will be my wife and I with the possibility of her brother and his wife joining us. We plan to golf at least 2 or three days.

We will have a rental car, so some travel is not out of the question. We are all in our mid 50's, but not into serious outdoor adventures. Local culture and sightseeing, area history, good food (enjoy most menus, except sushi,LOL) are all of interest to us. We are not into much nightlife. After a day or golf or sight seeing, just a good dinner is fine.

With just a week, golf and some local points of interest will be more than enough for us. WE all work hard and use our vacations to relax. Do not need to be runing every minute.

Usually, we spend three weeks on the Hawaiian island of Kauai each year, but opted to trade our timeshares this year.

Thanks again for all any any help.

Hey Rich, thanks for giving more info. I went to Scottsdale two summers ago with three other "girls" and loved it so much I went back in June and bought a condo in the little town of Fountain Hills.

I lived on a golf course for 13 years but have never played so can't help you there. I suggest you spend a day nosing around the little shops in Cave Creek. Its a small "cowboy" kind of town with lots of shops and saloon style restaurants. I like lunch (grilled cheese sandwich- heart attack on a plate)at Crazy Ed's Satisfied Frog and wash it down with chili beer with a chili pepper in each bottle.

Greasewood Flats is a fun, kick back, greasy hamburger and live country music joint near Pinnacle Peak in north Scottsdale.

Do you notice the trashy food theme here? I'm a PE teacher and fitness instructor and only really eat junk on vacations! Sounds bad, I know.

The Heard Museum

Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesan West

Hike up at least a little of Pinnacle Peak for beautiful views of Phoenix and Mesa and beautiful homes right along the edge of the mountain to glimpse how the wealthiest vacation. The trail is 1 3/4 miles one way but if you only hike 1/2-3/4 mile you will be rewarded with wonderful views.

Desertduds,
it appears as if the resort is just on the northeast corner of Scottsdale. The TPC and Stadium courses are .2 mile away. Location is 17700 North Hayden Rd.

Hi,
We stayed at the Sheraton Desert Oasis last October and it was great!!! We had a condo with 2 fireplaces and a jacuzzi. (A lot of furniture in the room!) Great location between the galf courses, shopping, and the Super Wal-Mart. It's a good 20-30 minute drive North from the PHX airport, depending on traffic, but easy access to the freeway.

Depending on value, buy the golf card for the local area and if you really like nice courses, buy the two-some Troon Card. Also, log on to www.602.com for reduced online green fees.

If you like Italian food, please go to the Italian Grotto in Old Scottsdale. Best Italian food we've had since we left Boston... and the tiramisu.... wow.. Thursday nights - Art Walk.

From top to bottom... Troon North-Pinnacle (with a showcase of $1M+ homes) and Monument, The GC at Eagle Mountain-hilly, Grayhawk-both courses, Talking Stick-Both courses, The Phoenician, Ocotillo, Superstition Springs-Mesa, Orange Tree, TPC-Desert (Stadium is $250 pp - once was enough.

We are planning to play in April, Gold Canyon-Dinosaur, We Ko Pa, Anthem CC (now a Troon Course, but will go private), and Boulders South, Westin Kierland.

If you like Swap Meets, there is one in Mesa.

If you have any specific question, please feel free to email me.
(Yes, it did rain there in October....)
