Scenic route from Minneapolis to Asheville, NC?

We're driving to Asheville, NC from Minneapolis MN We usually drive from MPLS to Indianapolils, then down through Kentucky (passing thru Louisville and Lexington) to Knoxville, then across the mountains to Asheville. The drive from Mpls to Indianapolis is pretty boring. We have a little extra time for our drive than usual -- any suggestions on a more scenic route?

In my opinion one of the greatest scenic drives you can make is the Blue ridge parkway all the way from W.Virginia to Asheville S.C.¨Paul

The Blue Ridge would be 'way 'way out of the way from Minneapolis! You might stop in Pleasant Hill Kentucky for a nice Shaker Village.
South of Indianapolis you could see the Brown County covered bridges.
You might drive on Route 25 down through Kentucky for a while--it pretty much parallels I75 and was "the" way before the interstates. I think you may be a bit "stuck" for getting there except by the interstate.

Thanks for the tips. The Shaker village sounds interesting. On our way home we are considering driving to Columbus OH to visit a friend and would probably end up driving through West Virginia if we decide to do that.
