Scenic Hightways SW Montana and S Idaho

We will be in Spokane in early July to visit friends and want afterwards to drive scenic highways in southern Idaho and/or southwest Montana. Suggestions?

Have you checked out this website?

http://www.byways.org/learn/

It's all about scenic byways in America.

Go to Explore Byways and click on the map in your area of interest.

You have a bevy of wonderful choices, among them the Beartooth and Chief Joseph Highways. Both are very worthy of the designation.

Doohickey, Are you any relation to doodad?

According to www.byways.org there is 112 miles of scenic highway in S Idaho and 68.7 miles in SW Montana. There must be more.

Anybody else with suggestions?

I'm pretty fond of Hwy 12 between Townsend and Harlowtown in MT especially in the green months - which is right now. The Bair Museum is a "must" visit in Martinsdale for a taste of the good life at the turn of the century.

Also, Hwy 278 and 43 between Dillon and Divide following the Big Hole River. I'm particulary fond of lunch in Wisdom at Fetty's Bar & Cafe -- a throwback to a kinder, gentler time and the genuine thing if you're looking for where the locals haunt. Look for the Bannack Ghost Town near Bannack Pass.
