Bald eagles in my back yard.

Big sky perspective. (if you have always lived in a city or in a very hilly area you will love this, it is very freeing).

Bougainvillea.

Gulf shrimp. Not those nasty little fish farm things or tiger shrimp.

Pale turquoise water contrasting with white sand and blue sky.

oops, I forgot two things:

Fresh, real tomatoes all winter.

Pick your own strawberries in February.

Hibiscus

3 cloudy days in a row constituting freaky weather.

Humidity making your skin young and dewy.

Palm fronds clacking in the breeze.

Dolphins surfacing while you sail being the norm, not unusual.

Orange and grapefruit trees in your own back yard.

Feeling like you are on vacation, whether you are or not.

No state income tax!!

Statia Dec 17th, 2003 04:51 AM

Not having to warm up your car for a full ten minutes in the winter months.

Being able to have a natural tan, as well as natural highlights, year round.

Beautiful water and beaches a stone's throw away, not to mention water sports.

The tracking of hurricanes adding some drama to your life. :)

Welcome to our world, Ms. Scarlett!

Oh man, you guys are killing me! I've been wanting to move to FL for years now. Only things keeping me from doing it is my job (only 1.5 more years till fully vested and 3 weeks vacation) plus my boyfriend. Still think about it though - very often.

Scarlett - your lucky!

Meesthare Dec 17th, 2003 05:26 AM

The nicest thing about FL from my point of view is that one of my oldest and dearest pals lives in Pompano Beach. We don't get to see each other nearly often enough.
Plus, I will admit to a grudging fondness for Disney World. But please don't tell anybody. :)

* manatees
* Kennedy Space Center -- defining/preserving history
* the music of Jimmy Buffett and the Bellamy Brothers
* three perennial college football powers

Have only been a visitor not a resident, but the oft-mentioned water on the Gulf shore is my favorite.

Manatees
and I'll admit to loving WDW! You'll love it there Scarlett, especially when the first snow storm hits NYC.

Real estate values that have multiplied up to ten fold in the 26 years I've lived here.
And directly related to the above: early retirement!!

Italiano Dec 17th, 2003 06:21 AM

Only have to make one choice a day !Pool or Beach or Both

ncgrrl Dec 17th, 2003 06:21 AM

70 is considered cold
Early bird specials at restaurants
"It's not the heat, it's the humidity"
Swamps
Flamingos, Manatees, Aligators
All the new plants you'll learn about living in a different zone

Scarlett Dec 17th, 2003 06:29 AM

I loooove Mannatees! I would love to donate some time and energy to those sweet things!
On a rainy awful day here, the thought of Florida sunshine does cheer me up. and ncgrrl, the plants! Yes, I lie awake planning my garden, that yard is sooo big! I have a dear friend who is a Master Gardener and I count on her advice for lots of gardening to be done:) as well as choosing Paint Colors from here for there!
I love the idea of walking out the door with just a sweater on all the time, instead of the scarf, coat, gloves, boots and today, umbrella that will blow away!
Thank you and do keep em comin~

Oh, indeed, no state taxes, delightful!! The good restaurants, lots of them, fresh seafood everywhere you look.

I am interested, leaving ny area must be hard. Why are you leaving, are you retiring to Fla? We faced that, made the move down two years ago, happy ever since. Hope you will be too.
