Scam and Fraud in Cancun/Mexico=Watch out for Mayan Palace

NINECAT! Please email me ([email protected]) I need your help!

Like over 20 of you, I too was scammed by the Mayan Palace. Can anyone help me in getting my money back from these creeps? I'm out $5200!

To those newbies out there...STAY AWAY FROM THESE SMOOTH TALKERS! THEY ARE PORFESSIONAL BLOODSUCKERS! I just can't believe we were so stupid. I want to believe Mexico is a great place to visit, but every place we turned for 2 weeks was a scam....our "all-inclusive resort", "prime snorkeling", "ourstanding service". We were so disappointed. If we can get through this MAYAN PALACE mess, I'm willing to give Mexico one more try. Hope all of you are wiser than we were and have a better experience. For a mom,dad and 3 teens, it was everything but a vacation.

what is this scam you're talking about? what happened?

Mexico is a wonderful place to visit and this will be my fourth visit. This November my wife and I will be taking our children for the second time to one of their beach resorts.

I'm not sure how you can blame the people of Mexico and label Mexico as something other than a nice vacation spot when a simple Google search for "Mayan Palace" would have allowed you to access complaints about them by the 21st entry.

I'm sorry you got scammed and are out the money. But, unless they held a gun to your head and forced you to sign, I can't see how Mexico gets the blame.

ilovemaui, I hope you didn't get hooked into a timeshare.
I think you'll find Mexico wonderful and charming in dozens of ways too numerous to mention. Sadly all to many people choose AI, never leave the premises and leave with a bad experience. Try some of the smaller towns, Puerto Vallarta, Playa del Carmen or Tulum and do NOT go AI.

I doubt that the time share ripoff is limited to Mexico. I consider the whole business a scam. I know some people say they love them, but I avoid them like the plague.

With all the travel forums and web sites it would make it really hard to get screwed out of $5,200. Why would you spend that much money without doing any research? You can use the internet for more than just whining!
As for timeshares in Mexico, I owned two seperate weeks at the Royal Sands and the Royal Carribean. I cannot say enough good about the Royal Resorts. They are first class all the way. My villas were beautiful and every year that I went they both looked brand new.
I would not hesitate to recommend Royal Resorts for a timeshare.

Here's more information about the timeshare scam that's going on in Mexico:

Just because somebody in USA used my credit card for fraud I don't say the country is a scam, and I am not going to leave!

Timeshare is not the only field opened for scams. Anybody who has/had children in high school is/was flooded with offers to get tuition. Everybody gets lottery offers, "wins" "free" trips - to name just a few.

I am sorry this happened to you, and hope you'll get out of this mess.

I, too, wish you the best of luck, and I hope that you're just venting when you say "I'm willing to give Mexico one more try". You have a right to be angry, but don't write off an entire country because of this (very) bad experience. (After all, we have scammers in the US, to...)

For what it's worth, I've traveled in Mexico several times, always avoiding tourist meccas such as Cancun like the plague, and have had nothing but good experiences.

Again, I hope you can get some of your money back, at least...
