Savannah with Teens
My daughter has a science bowl meet in Savannah the last weekend in February. We are out of school the entire week of President's Day, so I thought spending a few days in Savannah would be fun. We are looking at a max of 4 nights. We'd like to be in the Historic District but need to be budget minded since this is a spur of the moment trip. Any ideas of accomodations would be great. Also, any places the girls would really want to see? They are both BIG history buffs.

If they are now or have been Girl Scouts, the Juliette Gordon Low house should be high on your list.
They might also enjoy a trip out to Tybee Island to walk the beach, look for sharks teeth, climb the lighthouse and on the way out or back, stop at Ft Pulaski. Take a look at prices for the Hampton Inn Historic District. That would be the nicest of the more budget minded places and is a good location. |
I would suggest a walking tour of the Historic District, especially if they enjoy history. There's a TON of interesting history, and they'll be able to ask the tour guide anything. I highly, highly recommend calling the Kehoe House and setting up a tour with Earl. He's this great local guy, and he keeps his tours pretty small. My husband and I really enjoyed it, and we would take his tour again. I believe the Kehoe House will set it up for you even if you aren't staying there. (He works on his own.)
If you have a chance, visit Bonaventure Cemetary. It's a lot of fun to see all the old, ornate tombstones. It's just amazing how long some of them have been there. |
The Hampton Inn on Bay Street is full for our dates. Does anyone have opinions on the Comfort Suites on Bay Street?
|
Sorry, don't know it.
You know Uga lives in Savannah don't you? :) |
Yes, our most beloved of all DAWGS lives in Savannah. :)
|
Maybe they need to make him a tourist attraction.
His "daddy's" (beautiful) law office is at the "top" of Forsyth Park, northwest corner of Gaston and Bull, if the girls want to walk by and experience a bit of the aura that emanates from the building. :) |
I think we shall have to put that in our plans. My older daughter has her heart set on being a DAWG so that only seems fitting.
