The Azalea Inn is a B&B and is in the same area as the Mansion. The Mansion is just beyond the southeastern edge of the Historic District. Both are more into the Victorian District. They are very close to an area that is OK in the day time, at night, take a cab. The others are in better area for walking around.
Now, about your restaurants. Gottleib's is no longer in business. Mrs. Wilkes is open only for lunch during the week. Excellent home cooking served family style. The Lady and Sons seems to be not as good as it once was. Too sucessful I guess, and it can be a long wait in line. Cleary's is nothing special except to say that you ate there. It's in the same area as the Mansion. So if you stay there, it would be an easy walk over. I understand that the food at the Mansion is quite good. Elizabeth's on 37th is not close to the Historic District and you will either have to drive and find a parking spot or get a cab. |
Super...this is very helpful! So Mrs. Wilkes and Elizabeth's it is then :)

Oh, and the restaurant at the Mansion. It looks like it has a great atmosphere there as well.

We booked Kehoe House for Savannah but are deciding between the following places now for Charleston. We want something that's downtown, in the historic area and within walking distance to all of the "fun" stuff like restaurants, nightlife, etc.
1834 Battery Carriage House John Rutledge House Planters Inn King's Courtyard Inn Vendue Inn Which would be the best for us as far as location & level of accomodations? We do like "smaller" b & b's and hotels rather than large and impersonal ones, if that helps. |
Probably a tie between the John Rutledge House and The Planters Inn.
Since The Planters Inn has a teeny bit better location and the best restaurant in Charleston (don't miss The Penninsula Grill), I'd say The Planters Inn. The others on your list are great but can't hold a candel to the other two. |
I agree with gotravel, though I think the rooms at John Rutledge are a step above the ones at Planters.

We decided to go with John Rutledge--thanks everyone!

I am really curious to see how this trip went as I am also considering a move to either Savannah or Charleston, SC. My main thing is that Im a young, single, professional. How is the night life and the life in general for a young, single, professional? How is the single life?
