Savannah - March

Hi,

Just wondering...is March a time of year for Savannah tourism? What is the weather generally like then? Husband will be in Georgia on business then and we are considering a long weekend in Savannah. Thanks.

Our weather in Georgia changees dramatically in March! So that is a tough one to call. On the whole, Savannah is warmer than where I live in Athens. If you go to Savannah in late March, you should find flowers blooming. Augusta, where the Masters Golf Tournament takes place, is usually in bloom by the first week in April. Savannah is a little farther south with a climate that is influenced by the Atlantic, so it is usually a little ahead of Augusta.
You could experience temperatures of 75 - 80 degrees by the end of March.
Early March is a little more unpredictable.

To reinforce what Bob said, late March is the very best time to visit Savannah. The city has azaleas planted enmasse and they reach their peak usually around the 3rd week in March. The profusion of blossoms is quite incredible--all mixed colors. It's spectacular, BUT, it's also the one most sought after time to go. Now is not too early to make your reservations and if you wait, you risk taking what dregs are left as far as rooms go.

Temps will be mild generally, low 70's. There can be an occasion rogue light freeze up to mid month, but it'll hit the low in the middle of the night and be very short lived with day time highs comfortable.

Hope you've read The Book, as they call it there (Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil). Recommend dinner at the Pink House. A lovely city -- it will be gorgeous then.
AVOID March 17th - St Patricks Day.

Unless you want half a million college kids throwing up on you because they can't handle their drink.

thanks for the comments everyone. I think my husband's business trip is in early March - but I'm sure we'll have a lovely time.
