Savannah in early April

Quick question: have heard that gnats are a problem during March in Savannah. Will we have that annoyance in early April too?

When the weather is pleasant enough for us to enjoy being outside, (not too cold, not too hot) is also when they'll be around. They'll be there in early April...actually less a chance in March than April, but they aren't that horrendous a problem. It's not constant, and if there's a good breeze they return to wherever they came from. We lived on the 7th floor of a hotel there, had a nice patio overlooking the river, but even on the 7th floor, on a calm day we'd get them as well.

Odds are though, you won't notice them, or maybe just a bit during part of a day or two. Use Skin-so-soft on exposed skin, avoid hairspray and/or wear a baseball cap. That should keep them at bay. They are more a nuisance than anything else and the city is at its most beautiful in early April, so go and don't worry!!

Thanks, OliveOyl. It won't change any of our plans (esp. since we already have plane tickets & car!) and we look forward to enjoying the city. Just wanted to be prepared. Knowing it is easy to put some Skin-so-soft into the suitcase.
Thanks again.

MHS, You'll love the city! Remember to leave off anything with a scent (except Eau de Skin-So-Soft)--hairspray, perfume, what have you and you'll be only minimally bothered at worst.

Certain areas are worse than other...anything near the marsh can be bad. Bonaventure Cemetery too, if you are going out there, can be bad. The cemetery is beautiful and well worth seeing, especially when the azaleas and dogwood are in bloom, as they will be while you are there. If anyone finds a pearl earring out there, by the way, it's Mikimoto and it's mine!! Lost it in the cemetery brushing gnats from my head. Brushed it right out of my ear, looked for hours, but the cemetery evidently will be it's final resting place!

How is the Savannah School of Art and design??? Know someone who's thinking of sending their son.
