Savannah hotels, Westin or Four Points

I'm looking for comments on the Westin Hotel in Savannah harbor and the Sheraton Four Points in the historic district.
Anyone stay at either place? What are they like with regard to comfort? location? We have Sheraton points so choice is not based upon cost.
Any feedback will be appreciated.

A friend of mine stay at the Sheraton 2 weeks ago and said it was great! I stay at Hilton family hotels. Hampton Inn on Bay Street was nice. The Hilton was okay. I'm trying the Doubletree this weekend. A local told me that the Holiday Inn Mulberry was fabulous and the Hyatt on the river was wonderful, too. They are a little bit higher in price than the Hilton Hotels. Be careful...I've been researching...lots of crime in Savannah.

The Westin in on an island in the river. It is a beautiful hotel - but you have to take the water taxi back and forth so it is less convenient that staying elsewhere. The restaurants, etc are a bit pricey - so there are limited options and no wandering just outside your door - which is my favorite part of Savannah.

I checked the 4Pts' website and it looks very nice It's on the "other side" of MLK which used to be an "iffy" area not so long ago. There has been a lot of growth in that area so the area is more attractive, but it is NEXT to the historic district, not IN it. It's a few blocks stroll to get to the pretty parts of Savannah.

My fav is the Hampton Inn at Bay and Abercorn - but that doesn't help you with points.

I'd make the decision based on how many points each costs.

We stayed at the Westin two years ago. It is on an island away from the maddening and loud crowd. However, the boat ride is very short, as is the wait.

The hotel and facilities looked good, though I recall there were problems with cleanliness and overall service.

Hi Redrover, I also want to use my points to stay in Savannah. Have you made a decision where you will stay? When are you going? I am leaning towards Four Points but trying to figure out exactly where it is and if it is safe for me and my mom to walk around in the area. I will be there in December and will only be spending 1 night as we are actually staying in Hilton Head, SC and this is just a day trip. We will also visit Charleston

Google to see the location.
It's on the "other" side of MLK which used to be a no-man's zone. There has been more construction/ revitalization in that area due to SCAD and new hotels.

You'll be okay in the daytime. I wouldn't walk it at night alone (or two women). Take a pedicab back to the hotel after dark - and lots of fun too!
