Savannah Hotel Recommendations
 

Since it seems like Savannah is the best choice for a place to go in Georgia, what would the best hotels be to stay at in Savannah? We will be taking a family trip, so we obviously wouldn't want to stay at a Bed & Breakfast. We would like to definitely stay right in the heart of the city or by the river. We have looked at the Westin on the river, but I'm not sure since the ferry transportation to Savannah seems like it might be a hassle. Other hotels that seemed nice are the Marriott Riverfront, Hyatt, and Hilton DeSoto. Which hotels are the best?

I'm not familiar with the Westin, or is that the one across the river?

But of the other three, I'd most highly recommend the Hyatt, asking for a higher floor. Our room was great but there was a huge private yacht there at the time and we sort of looked into it. (That would not be a usual problem -- this one was almost like a cruise ship -- someone told us it belonged to Merv Griffin.)

Duh, when all else fails read the original post. Now I see your mention about the ferry, so yes, I guess the Westin is that hotel across the river. Like you, I thought it looked like that would be a hassle.

We stayed at the Hyatt, a corner room in the front..affording us a view of the river and the street.
That room was very nice, we were shown one before that was not so nice, they seem to be slowly renovating rooms.
It is a perfect spot in the city though, we enjoyed walking on River St as well as in town.
The Westin , I think I heard, has private water taxis that take guests back and forth.
I would stay at the Westin just because it is so beautiful :)
Once you are out of your room, most likely you are out for most of the day, so the back and forth across the river might not be a big deal.
I think we need to go back soon, it is such a lovely city ((F))

You won't go wrong with the Hyatt, Marriott or Westin if you want to be on River Street. Hampton Inn and Mulberry Inn (Holiday Inn) are good choices too off Bay Street.

Another thumbs-up for the Hyatt. Great location!

I just wanted to mention that the Hampton is much nicer than I think of a Hampton being. Hyatt is prime real estate, but the Hampton is also in a good location.
