KMurphy...don't know if you saw my previous note on the Hilton. You had two notes going at the same time and each had a response.
The Hilton is almost dead center in the middle of the historic district. The bull's eye. But...the historic district is also quite small, only a bit over a mile long and wide, so anywhere you are within the district, you aren't too far from anything else.
The Hilton is in one of the squares. It's a quieter, and more beautiful area than the Hampton Inn which is on Bay St. The Hampton Inn is closer to River Street (the very touristy waterfront and as a former resident, my least favorite area of town) and City Market. The real beauty of Savannah is in her various squares though, not River Street or City Market. You will, however, end up in both places for some shopping and restaurants.
Hampton Inn is new, Hilton is an old but well kept hotel. IMHO...it's a toss up. If Hampton Inn is significantly less expensive, perhaps that would be the deciding factor.
