Savannah/Hampton Inn

Hello. I will be visiting Savannah for the first time in December (actually debating whether to go back to Charleston for Christmas -- which I loved -- or go to Savannah for five days). I've booked a room at the Hampton Inn Historic Area. Is that location good (walking around, restaurants, etc.) or is it too "touristy" (mediocre restaurants and souvenir shops)? I've also considered staying at the Marriott Courtyard (on MLK Blvd) but am wondering if that location is too isolated from the historic sites. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Savannah is small enough that you don't have to stay in the touristy area where the Hampton is located. That being said, the hotel is consistently well-received. You should also consider such places as the Presidents' Quarters. We had a 2 room suite for the same price as the Hampton with parking and breakfast included. The location was quieter but no less convenient to all of the sites.

We stayed at the Springhill Suites, which I believe is about 5 or 6 miles from the historic district. It was a very nice hotel, and it is very short walking distance to an Olive Garden and a steakhouse.

The Savannah Hampton Inn is a good choice in a great location. You will be pleased.

We stayed at the Hampton last December and were very pleased. Was our first time in Savannah and we loved it. Would go back in a minute. The Hampton is close to everything.

The location of Hampton Inn in Savannah is great, and Hampton Inn is a consistently terrific hotel for the money. I would have no qualms about staying there....... :-)

We have stayed at Hampton Inn several times in past 2 years. (son is in college in Savannah). Location is great - one block from River Street which has the greatest concentration of restaurants, etc. Hotel is very clean, service is good, rooms rather large, they have a nice breakfast buffet in AM. Parking was $8 per night in either their own undergraound garage, open lot across street, or city garage across the street. In Sept. we had a van full of dorm stuff and were told that their garage was safe and that police patrol city garage.

Savannah historic district is beautiful, a nice walking area. However, once you get out of historic district some of Savannah is not an area a tourist would be likely to enjoy - crime is relatively high, and there are some pockets of great poverty. MLK Blvd is on edge of historic district, but location is not as good as Hampton Inn.

Other posters here prefer some smaller historic inns, but for our purposes, Hampton Inn has been perfect.
