We enjoyed the Explore Savannah walking tour with Bobby Davis; it was my parents (my mom's 70 th birthday celebration), my husband and me. My parents had taken a trolley tour on a previous Savannah visit and while fun, they felt that they learned a lot more on the Explore Savannah tour.

Here's another recommendation for Bobby Davis. He'll customize the tour to your preferences. He's also full of tips and recommendations for seeing/doing on your own. Otherwise, bring a good tour guide with the history of each of the squares.

The trolley tours are terrific, but much depends on the driver/guide. If you're lucky enough to find Pookie, she's awesome!

Highly recommend reading "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" ahead of your trip. A "book" tour with a visit to the cemetary is outstanding!

And, if you're Paula Deen fans, her tour is also excellent (and you get insider reservations at her restaurant).

A visit to any of the historical homes is also worthwhile.

I really enjoyed the architecture tour that I took with Jonathan Stalcup, a graduate of the Savannah College of Art & Design. It starts in Washington Square and ends in Telfair Square. I thought that Jonathan really knew his stuff, and he brought historical photos to put the buildings in context. Plus he was v. personable. He has another tour that focuses on Forsyth Park.

I have a trip report from Savannah up on my website, along with some photos. I went in April with two friends on a girls trip. We really enjoyed the city. Link is here: http://caroundtheworld.com/female-bonding-in-savannah/
