Savannah,GA
While visiting Savannah, I asked the desk clerk where all the locals dined and she said Johnny Harris Restaurant was the place and she hit the nail on the head. The meal was great and I did not feel that I had gone to the usual overpriced tourist trap.

Very strange first post.
Sounds like an ad for Johnny Harris to me. There are so many Fodorites recommeneding good restaurants over and over again I don't think those qualify as "overpriced tourist traps". Johnny Harris is certainly not my idea of a Savannah dining experience, but if it worked for you, great. |
Paul - no advertising please. Or at least do us the courtesy of being more inventive and creative in hiding the fact that it is advertising.

Paul, I was a Savannah resident for 4 years. We ate there once. Enough of a picture? :)

If you were visiting Savannah, and had to ask a desk clerk where to eat, did you have any problem finding the place? It's not in the usual Historic Savannah area.
If a visitor doesn't have his own car, he'll need a cab. Locals do go there, but they also go many other places. |
I wonder if this is the same person who keeps posting all those Polident ads?
|
I also liked The Pink House,Elizabeth on 37th, and 45 South in Savannah. They have some great restaurants there.
|
Only locals who use Polident eat there.
|
Do they specialize in soft foods? No corn on the cob will be served there. :-d

My husband and I are planning a very short trip to Savannah for 3 days in mid November, just the two if us. We have never been to the South before, but we have always been fascinated with the history and the literature and the music of the area. We are from Calgary,Alberta...which is culturally a polar opposite. We don't have a whole lot of dough to spend and the first thoughts of romantic B&B's went out of our heads when we saw the prices...350-500 bucks!!! Whew!! Can anyone recommend a place?

Hi, bebopper. I'm no expert on Savannah, but I bet you can find something less expensive. You will probably get the help you need by posting your question on it's own thread. Good luck.
