Savannah--Doubletree or Hampton(E Bay St)

My husband and I are planning to travel to Savannah mid October for a few days. Any preference on the Doubletree or Hampton?

I see the Hampton always has great reviews--but would want to make sure we have the best experience...would like a larger room, with good view--for a romantic weekend.
Thanks.

I'm one of the rare ones who did not like the Hampton Inn in Savannah. We did a road trip last Spring and stayed almost exclusively in Hampton Inn's and it was the MOST expensive and the worst one. I would never recommend it or stay again. Poorly managed, and dirty...I admit I'm picky but all the others were very clean. The location can't be beat but there are others around there. Go somewhere else.

Thanks. I have booked a room at the Holiday Inn Express --E Bay St. I hope it will be OK.

Well, I stay at the HI regularly for business and I had only favorable experiences. Common areas and garage = clean as well as the rooms. Very helpful staff, especially the woman who works the concierge desk in the lobby. Free breakfast is much better than the Doubletree's cookie (although the cookie is good). Free internet rather paying for it at the Doubletree.

I'm not familiar with the HIX there, but if you want an icgrouphotels experience, the Mulberry is WONDERFUL.

Not all of the hotel rooms on E Bay have "views" though.

You might want to check a B&B or VRBO. I quick look on VRBO revealed these which may or may not be available:

There are many more in your price range. They look a bit more romantic than the Holiday Inn Express and seem to be in the same price range.

I checked the HIX website. Good location. Hotel looks nice. Report back after your trip.

Thanks for all the info-I think we will stick with the Holiday Inn Express on E Bay. I booked a room with a balcony so we will see what kind of "view" we have.

I will let you know how it turns out.

Holiday Inn Express is across street from Hampton Inn - brand new in last year, so it should be nice.
