Savannah, Anybody?
 

We're going to be in Savanah the last week of October. Have reservations for The Meeting Street Inn. Has anyone stayed there?
Also, is Lady & Son as good as it has been made out to be? Any other dinner recommendations?

We spent two nights in Savannah in June.
Dined one night at Garibaldi's and the next night at The Olde Pink House. Great dinners at both restaurants.

We had a wonderful meal at Gottleib's.

Although you will not get a sighting of Mrs. Wilkes anymore, I still love her restaurant. Nothing like a sit down southern style meal. Not fancy but yummy.

Lady and Sons is good - but folks differ on whether it's worth the wait.

The lunch at Mrs. Wilkes Boarding house is great southern cooking served family style.

You can't do better for dinner than the Pink House/ Garibaldi's / Bistro Savannah - all owned and managed by the same folks. My fav is the Pink House but I do Garibaldi's when I can't get a res at PH. I love starting out with a drink in the downstairs tavern - sometimes an appetizer too if the wait for a table is long.

Enjoy Savannah. Do a trolley tour and a walking tour too!

I'm a fan of Lady and Sons (and Paula Deen), and have enjoyed 2 excellent meals there. I think you should have the buffet to get a taste of all the yummy dishes Paula Deen makes. It helps to go at off-peak times so you can actually get in the place. When I was there in February, we ate a late lunch at 2:00 p.m. and got in without any wait. I also recommend going hungry--the first time I ate there, I'd had a large breakfast, so I couldn't enjoy the buffet quite as much (maybe that was a good thing??). Her brother has a restaurant called Uncle Bubba's Oyster House (it's kind of out of town towards Tybee Island) and it's also good. I actually met Paula there rather than in her place. She hugged me and cracked crabs for me b/c she said I was passing up some of the best parts of the meat. It was very exciting!

I used to live in Savannah but I have not heard of The Meeting Inn. However, I have eaten at Lady and Sons. If you have never been to Savannah or the South, I suggest going to Lady and Sons. It will give you an idea of how we like to eat in the South. The lunch and dinner buffet has the same food so I would go for lunch because it's cheaper. If you have a party of 6 or more, you can make reservations. I also recommend the Pirates House and Uncle Bubba's. There are many places to eat on River Street and the menus are posted outside.

There's a River Street Inn in Savannah and a Meeting Street Inn in Charleston -- don't know of a Meeting Street Inn in Savannah either.

I've always had pleasant stays at the Meeting Street Inn in Charleston. Great location, too.

Uncle Bubbas, on the way to Tybee, is owned by someone related to Paula Dean (Lady and Sons). Her brother maybe.

Uncle Bubba's is owned by Paula and her brother. It's outside of Savannah on the water (I believe). We hope to try it when we're there next week.

Since you will be in Savannah in late October (which is not high tourist season), I think you'll have a much better chance of getting in to the Lady and Sons without having to wait long.

I truly think that a long wait in the hot sun is what sours people on it. I've been three or four times, always at off-peak times and never had to wait very long.

In my very humble opinion, I think the food is very good. I've had her crab cakes and they were really great. The buffet is also great, and those hoe cakes are awesome. I love Southern food and this fits the bill perfectly to me.

We just ate at Lady and Sons on Friday - it was absolutely wonderful!!! We got there at 1:00 PM and were seated by 2:00. The baked chicken pie was the best I've ever had. Everyone of us enjoyed our meal - it was worth the wait!! Next time, I'd like to try the buffet.
