Savannah and Charleston over New Years.
 

My wife and I just made plans to spend a week in Savannah and Charleston starting the day after Christmas. We leave NYC on Dec. 26 for three days in Savannah; rent a car and drive to Charleston for four days and celebrate New Year's Eve. I would appreciate hotel suggestions, restaurants ( including vegetarian options), places to visit, live music venues and where in Charleston to celebrate New Year's Eve.

Be sure to stop by charming Beaufort on the way to Charleston.

The cuisine of these two cities is strongly non-vegetarian. This does not mean you will have to live on salads because the many fine restaurants in each city can accommodate you. It's in the "non fine dining" level where you want to be careful: is that butter on those grits? Is that pork in that kale?

Several years ago we spent a week in Savannah and enjoyed it. Am wondering how flood damage might be a problem. Maybe a plus if city struggles to attract tourists.

If we don't have a car in Savannah are there any tours of Wormsloe Plantation and Bluff Drive in the Isle of Hope? My wife has read that these are two locations for photography.

Has anyone attended a performance at the Black Fedora Mystery Comedy show? Considering it for a New Years Eve option.

Bedar..agree with Beaufort as a warm and friendly stop..famous pre-Millenial flick "The Big Chill" was shot therein. We lucked out as the Chicago Cows were placed all over towns. What fun!

My cousins who live in Hilton Head, 100 yards from the shore line had to evacuate for the fifth time in 20 years. House was relatively intact..and the State animal and bird reserve next door, with it's series of planked, raised walkways, was untouched.

Designed a rather comprehensive itinerary for some people here in California. Includes dining suggestions, lodgings, sights to see, etc. I think you might find it helpful. Yes, <b>Pink House</b> was certainly one of the recommendations. One of my grandson's waited tables there while staying in Savannah years ago.Of course, we were treated like visiting royalty by the staff...itinerary is titled "Sampling The Deep South"

I have shared this with several Fodorites. My former next door neighbors here in California owned a resort in Natchez ("The Monmouth Plantation") which figures into the plans as they laid out the red carpet for the ladies.

Here's a more specific question regarding New Year's Eve. I ended up booking tickets to attend the Black Fedora Mystery Comedy show which will run from 8:30 - 10:30. We would like to have dinner before the show and find a bar/pub to celebrate the New Year afterwards. Any suggestions?
