Savannah & Charleston in late Nov.

We are thinking of taking a short trip to Savannah and Charleston. We would leave the day after Thanksgiving. Will the weather be warm enough to get out and walk? We would like to park the car and walk around the cities and want to take the boat trip to Fort Sumpter. Since we live where it is cold we would like to go somewhere that is reasonably warm, but don't want to go to Florida.

Charleston and Savannah that time of year should be fairly mild. It could be a little muggy and rainy but most likely the most you would need to wear would be a heavy sweater. According to historic averages the avg high is 68 and low is 53.

Because the ocean tempurature is still around 75 degrees, the air temps will remain balmy.

It will be nice in November unless we have a cold snap. Even with a cold snap the temps will remain above 55 degrees.

Also, what leah said.

Thanks for the help. I'm glad to know that what you call a cold snap still is much warmer than it is here in the Midwest in late November. We really want to visit these 2 cities but can't work it in until the day after Thanksgiving. We appreciate your replies and will start making plans.

One day in Savannah is plenty. Concentrate on Charleston. More to do, better food.

Gretchen,

Thanks for the suggestion. We will fly into one city on Friday morning and return home from the other city on Tuesday. I am just now making plans and checking into reservations. We were thinking of spending Friday afternoon and all day Saturday in Charleston and driving to Savannah sometime on Sunday. Do you think this is a good plan?

Too long in Savannah. Stay in Charleston 'til Sunday. Go to Savannah in the afternoon.

Oops, that is pretty much what you said.

You may find that flying into Savannah is a lot easier than flying into Charleston. How much time you want to spend in Savannah depends on whether you just want to drive around or if you want to stop and see things like Fort Pulaski, Fort Jackson, The Cathedral of St. John's, and a host of other things. Driving around the Historic District is easy. I would come in on Friday, do a drive-around, go out to the Forts on Saturday and decide then, if you want to stay another night in Savannah or go on to Charleston. The weather might be iffy in November. It depends on what you are used to, but I would not call November a "reasonably warm" month. You may need raincoats and more than a heavy sweater.
