Savannah and Charleston

I would like to plan a trip to this area since I have never seen the south. How much time should I plan to spend and can I drive a car between the two cities? I will be flying from Los Angeles. Any itinerary suggestions?

Kitty,
I am a little confused; are you going to Savannah from LA? I have driven from Albuquerque, NM to Savannah. We love Savannah but not in the summer. It is hot an humid but very beautiful in the spring. Hopefully you will visit in the spring. Carleston and Savannah are near each other.

I will be flying from Los Angeles. Should I fly to Charleston or Savannah? Also I plan to go at the end of March, beginning of April.

The annual garden tour will be going on at that time in Savannah.

Fly in to either city based on airfares. Yes, get a rental car.

You will be there for one of the prettiest times of the year. The weather should be beautiful and the azaleas should be blooming. Humidity will not be a problem in the spring.

I think Charleston may be a better choice for airport. You can drive between them, but weight your trip to Charleston. One day in Savannah will do it. Beaufort is worth a look on the way down also.
