Savannah and Charleston

I have a trip planned in January to Savannah and Charleston.. Is it best to stay in the historical district of both cities? Can anyone recommend hotels for either city? Thanks.

Price per night ??
What kind of hotels do you like - chain, boutique, etc?

Not knowing answers -- we stayed at Indigo Inn and found it to be well located, a good breakfast and free wine hour, clean and comfortable. It isn't much to look out from the outside, but the rooms were nicely done. Approx $150 [w/tax] a night, $12 parking per day.

If you are a senior, call for senior price, which doesn't show on website.

$150 a night is fine and any kind of hotel is also fine. We are seniors, so thanks for the advice.

Hi ggsidell,

I would recommend staying in the historic district of both cities. It's nice to wake up, walk out the door and already be in the midst of the charm and within walking distance of much of the activity. One tends to pay more for being centrally-located than being in a hotel say off the highway, but in my mind, it's worth paying that bit extra. And if $150/night doesn't sound too steep, I paid that or less to stay at the Vendue Inn in Charleston and the 1790 Inn in Savannah, both of which I very much liked.

Have a great trip to two jewels of the southeast! Daniel

Yes.
In Savannah, check into the Planter's Inn, the Hampton at Bay and Abercorn, or the Holiday Inn Express or Staybridge Suites on Bay.
At higher price points, the Andaz, the Bohemian or the Brice.

I would highly recommend The Savannah Bed and Breakfast Inn. Located across from Chatham Square in a quiet neighborhood a few blocks from the river. This is a quaint B&B with very nice rooms and an excellent breakfast in the morning. That's our place of choice when we're in the city.
