sausalito vs. tiburon
 

Going for 3 days to SF. Which is nicer to visit sausalito or tiburon? Maybe half a day visit, just sightseeing and lunch. <BR>thanks for your comments

They are both quite nice. I don't know exactly wht you hd in mind but either way I would suggest you take th eferry. Even though I lived there for 5 years, the thrill of th eview from the ferry still blows me away. <BR> Sausalito has a bit more to do-- although they both have shops and restaurants. If you go to Tiburon there is the option of the ferry to Angel Isand which I highly recommend. The views (if you hike up) are amazing--pray for a clear day.<BR> Either way you can't go wrong. I love Tiburon. There is one TINY street and 1/2. But, there is a walk along the water. And my favorite restaurant is there. Guaymus. Upscale mexican. The margaritas and the fresh guacamole are killer. You can sit outside with heat lamps and watch the ferry come and go. It is just great. For me that restaurant is worth the experience. If you stay - The Water's Edge. Then walk up the slight hill to Windsor wine tasting room and sample some very good wines. Buy one and take it back to your room for the next night. Also, Konditori has pasteries and coffee and tiny outdoor seating.<BR><BR>Less upscale and fun is the every popular Sam's Anchor Cafe. And only for the burgers out on the deck. If you do go to Sam's, also stop at Guaymus for a drink.<BR><BR>Sausalito is just toooo commercial.

I recently visited Sausalito for the first time and went with this knucklebrained image in my mind of a bohemian community on the water (which it may well have been in the early - mid 60's). I agree with the description of Sausalito as overly commercial. The only thing I found really appealing was the view, which is incredible. Tiburon may be small but Sausalito is not very large eiher - really just one long main street on the water.

Own might be thinking about the "Bohemian" Houseboat community. It is really worth the drive/walk to see this interesting place where people live. The boats ar unique and it is next to impossible to get one these days. Watch your step though as dogs live out there as well...and the grass is not as plentiful on a houseboat. The Horizon would appeal to a more Bohemian feel also. My vote is with Sausalito also. There are moonlight canoe paddling excursions at night too. Have a great time!
