Saugatuck B&B's

Hi, I would like to hear about your experiences in Saugatuck and the B&B you might have stayed in. Thank you.

Six B&Bs offer offseason weekend packages in Saugatuck, usually around a theme weekend. (Murder Mystery, Road Rally, Wine & Dine, Romance, etc.)

We attended the Romance package in '94; after you check in at your lodging (ours was a converted boathouse) you have a Friday evening party at one of the B&Bs, then Saturday morning/afternoon you're on your own in the town of antiques, fine art, wineries, the harbor, etc. Come Saturday evening, you break up into groups with other attendees and begin a 5-course progressive dinner at each B&B. (You will have to have a car -- they are spread out.) They used to have one room open at each B&B so you can review room styles. The last course -- dessert -- is served in an area where you can dance.

The styles vary from an Al Capone's henchmen's mansion, a too-cute country charm barn, a Queen Anne tower house, a converted house... you get the idea. One is the oldest building in the area that claims Susan B. Anthony spent a summer.

Search the web under Michigan Harbor County or Saugatuck B&Bs to see if they still do these. Happy travels!

We went to the Fennville/Saugatuck area in September for a weekend and stayed at the Kingsley House. It was beautiful. We toured the Fennville winery on Saturday ans did a wine tasting then went to some uniques antiques stores the next day. A great romantic weekend. The Kingsley House is a victorian/ Queen anne style and very quaint, they have a website to check out.

This was a great weekend getway about 150 miles from Chicago. Would like to go back and do the Murder Mystery thing, I saw them advertised, but I think these are done in the spring (MArch or April).

Thank you for the responses. The Kingsley does look really lovely, but I wanted something closer to the Lake (this is for the 4th of July). Has anyone stayed at the Kirby House, Twin Oaks, or the Fairchild House?

The Kirby House is nice from the outside. The rooms could use an update. The 2 guys that own it are kinda rude (always drunk). We stayed there and made the best of it.
