Saturday Lunch - Union Sq Area?

Please advise a good place to have lunch while holiday shopping in the Union Square area. We have had lunch at Kuleto's and Scala's but would like to try something different this year. Thanks for your help!

are you talking somerville?

Anthony Dec 2nd, 2002 04:23 PM

My choices would be:
Angelos & Maxis for good steaks -

Union Pacific for excellent, creative seafood in a beautiful, zen-like dining room.

Opps! Are you talking NY or SF? The restaurants you mention don't seem familar here in NY

Try the bar area of Postrio--great people watching if you sit near any of the windows, and their smoked salmon pizzas are WONDERFUL! They also have a lot of other choices on the bar menu.

Toodie is talking about San Francisco. Kutleto's and Scala give it away.

I agree about Postrio, although the bar can be very crowded with people sort of all over your table. If you want something a little more quiet, eat in the main dining room. Farallon is wonderful, but a little expensive for lunch. (Well, actually less than Postrio, I guess).

I was going to suggest Fifth Floor, if you're heading over to Market, but Zagat's doesn't indicate they're open for lunch. Is that right? Surprising.

What about Bix -- a place I love for lunch, but maybe a little boisterous?
Or the restaurant at Campton Place is really very nice and has wonderful food.

In review of these, my first choice would still be Kuleto's, but I know you're looking for something different. I just find it such a bargain for what it is!

We had a wonderful lunch in the Garden Court of the Palace Hotel. The room is gorgeous with an art deco ceiling and the lunch was great. It is at Market and New Montgomery.

A second for the Garden Court of the Palace. I work on Montgomery Street and a friend suggested it for lunch yesterday. It is not a place that I would have thought of, and it was a very pleasant surprise, not the least of which was the fact that it was fairly reasonable.
