sarasota in december

thinking of vacationing in sarasota fl area week after christmas..will it be warm enough to swim in the gulf?

Patrick Sep 27th, 2004 11:07 AM

Well lots of those "crazy" northerners do it and think nothing of it, so depending on where you're from, yes. It will be warmer than a Michigan or Minnesota lake in the height of the summer, for example. But don't expect to see us Florida "natives" in the water!

I see people do it all the time so it depends on what you're used to. The average winter temperature in the gulf is 65 degrees.

I think it will be cold and I'm from Connecticut. In December, average water temp in Sarasota is 67 degrees while the average high air temp is 73 degrees and the average low air temp is 59. Keep in mind that it will probably be colder than average as temperatures decrease as the month progresses.

It may be warm enough to go to the beach but as a year round resident, I do not go in the water after Oct and not before May.

Naw. But there is plenty to do there without the beach. love sarasota. Go for it.

Ditto on the things to do in Sarasota but that's not what the poster is interested in.
