Sarasota hotels
 

Looking for a place to stay in Sarasota next Jan. Doesn't have to be on the beach. but not too far, also plan to visit the ringling museums, the ? gardens, Mayakka state park, etc.

somewhere around $200, 225, maximum. less would be fine.

any ideas or suggestions. Have looked on trip advisor, but so difficult to tell where they are.

Yes, visit the Marie Selby Gardens! It is lovely and they have such a wonderful collection of orchids (also for purchase and reasonably priced).

We stayed at the Ritz Carlton. I'm sure others will have some suggestions for you. You should also do a search (put Sarasota in the search box) for more information.

Sarasota is great. Love the Ringling Museums. Check out maps.google.com if you want to see where everything is down there. Good night life too.

January is in the early part of our peak season so rates are fairly high.
You could stay at the Helmsly on Lido beach in the price range you mentioned.
I think that the Ritz is going to be well beyond the budget you are wanting to stay in. The Hyatt hotel near downtown Sarasota might fit your budget in that time frame as well.
The hotel situation in Sarasota is becoming a problem for tourists as many of the older hotels are being bought up and redeveloped into high end condo. units making good accomodations more and more difficult to find.

The Hyatt is a business hotel and is not on the beach (nor is the Ritz) but the Helmsley is right on Lido. For my money, I'd rather be nearer the Gulf and farther from US41. You might try any hotel on Lido Key, most of these would be very nice and have good location. Good luck!
