emd - yes, my son is #3. Like I said, not his best picture in terms of showing how cute he is (he really *is* very good looking), but a great picture of a good rebound considering his height.

He was MVP his Freshman year and moved to the Varsity team his Sophomore year. He got pretty decent playing time that year and got "Rookie of the Year". This year he was a starter. He really is hoping to play college ball, but his half-Japanese genes are keeping him down (literally, in terms of height).

Samohi baseball should be interesting this year. It's been very emotional for the team, students and the campus in general lately because one of their players was killed on 2/28 in a completely senseless gang shooting. This kid was 15 years old and not involved with gangs, but was shot anyway. My son didn't know him, but still went to the memorial they had on campus. He said that it was heartbreaking. From all accounts, this boy was just a truly nice kid with a bright future. You'll probably see the players wearing black bands on their uniforms.

jlaughs, that would be fun. I love talking about Japan! And on this trip to CA I will be taking all my Japan stuff to work on our trip notebooks, since the trip is only 3 wks away and I haven't done that yet.

I am going to be in SM, arriving next Tues. or Wed. and staying through the weekend til about the 29th or 30th. How about over the weekend? Or one evening, although most often I don't get back to the hotel til about 7-8pm.

If you are close to Samohi, over the weekend we could meet in the hotel lobby (free parking if you are visitng a guest) and maybe walk over to Main St. from there for coffee. I'll have to go downtown some each day for a few hrs. but usually take off the late afternoon and evening on Sat./Sun.

I can ask the editors here to put us in touch w/each other; if I ask and attach this thread they will email you my email address.

Great! Yes, please have the editors give me your email address. I didn't make the suggestion as soon as I read your post because I have to work both this weekend and next. But, I reread your post and realized that you will be here for several days, so I thought we might find *one* evening to meet.

jlaughs: the editor emailed me back immediately on the evening of 3/15 and said she was sending you my email address. Did you get it?

Just let me know, so I know you have it. I had a bit of trouble getting her to do this a few wks ago w/someone I am meeting up w/in Japan on the Asia board. But that was because the editor (only one does these kinds of emails)was on vacation.

I leave on Tues. for LA. Busy week there.
