Santa Fe with children
We will be in Santa Fe for three days in June. Can you recommend a nice hotel which can accommodate a family of 5-- 2 adults and 3 young children (aged 6 months- 7 years)? Ideal place would have at the very least a pool and a suite or connecting rooms.
Also I know that there are some wonderful restaurants in Santa Fe. We enjoy good quality food-- any recommendations of restaurants that fit this category which also welcome children? Thanks. Jeanne |
The Shed is pretty family-friendly; try LocalFlavor magazine or the Santa Fe Reporter for more recommendations. www.localflavor.com and www.santafereporter.com

We also have 3 children....we liked The Inn of the Govenors (outdoor pool). Bishop's Lodge also has family accomodations, but is really expensive and out of town. My girlfriend and family recently stayed at The Eldorado and loved it.
We always go to The Shed or Coyote Cafe Cantina with the kids. They like The Cowgirl Hall of Fame (decent food). The Tecolote Cafe is great for breakfast (south of downtown) and so is the Plaza Cafe. |
Thanks for the suggestions.

The kids will love the desserts at the Cowgirl.
Don't miss Tomasita's. The food is fantastic, definitely a casual atmosphere. Lots of families, even a kid's menu I think. |
My kids really enjoyed "Harry's Roadhouse" which is on the Old Las Vegas Hwy in Santa Fe. Lots of funky art and the food was good. Our kids were welcome there.
The Radisson was having a buy two nights, get one free special in June. I know because we're going in July and it doesn't apply. It looked like a very pretty place with a great Santa Fe feel and a great pool. The rate though hotel.com was about $80 per night, when you averaged it over the three nights. |
any other hotel suggestions?
|
I would definitely say it's more of a motel rather than a hotel, but we were very happy with the El Rey Inn. One of the reasons we chose it was that Frommer's suggested it as a good place with kids. There is a pool and a playground. You might want to check tripadvisor.com as the El Rey has gotten mixed reviews there. It's been nearly six years since we stayed there. But I'd definitely stay there again as we have very pleasant memories of it.

jeanned, What's your budget range? Do you need to be near the Plaza or is a chain hotel on Cerrillos acceptable?
|
we would like to be in or near to santa fe. flexible about price. looking for a nice place that can comfortably accommodate 5.

jeanned, All of the places mentioned to date on this thread meet your criteria. Good luck.

El Rey is great for kids. I've stayed there with my family of five several times. They have a lot of different rooms configurations-- not your typical cookie-cutter motel. Tell them what you need and they can find a room that you will enjoy. The pool is great and so is the hot tub. There's a nice free breakfast every morning and a Baskin Robbins across the street.
The only possible drawback is that it's on Cerrillos Road and not located in the plaza area. |
