hi paula (and laura). those casitas are all in the same little area. they are definitely within walking distance to the plaza - about 5 blocks. they are in the same street as one of the really nice casitas we also saw online but was very expensive - i think the casa estrella? not sure now which one but it is safe. the one we stayed at is the loft one but it was just for me and my husband. the upstairs bed is a queen but the downstairs couch opens up to a bed. the kitchen is tiny but I was able to make a small thanksgiving dinner for us and one of the nights, we bought some buffalo meat at whole foods and grilled it at the grill outside. the fireplace is a working one. there is also a washer and dryer which was helpful in cleaning clothes before we headed for the taos part of the trip. i would definitely stay there again. i think the loft ones are the cheapest ones because it is smaller in terms of square footage but they are all in the same complex/ we all parked in the same lot.

sorry, that's suppose to say 3 blocks, not 5. I can't type tonight.....

Isotopes Stadium is south of UNM near the airport. There are tons of airport hotels you could choose from; probably the nicest place, though, is the Embassy Suites on I-25 and Lomas.

From there, you just drive west on Lomas to where it connects with Central, and you're at Old Town.

I'm back as predicted with a location question!

We are close to going with one of the Two Casitas places, this particular one located at 750 Old Santa Fe Trail. Another that we're considering is at 108 Artist Rd.

Has anyone stayed at either, or have an opinion on locations?

Thanks again!

Laura

ps I did appreciate several of the other suggestions made about places to stay, but they were not available on our dates.

Oh, and while we're at it, one more...334 Otero Street, the Campanilla Compound.

Thanks again!

Hi Laura, all three are good locations.

Otero Street is probably the closest in town.

The one on Artist Road is also walking distance. It will be a few blocks farther than Otero rental. Also, it will be on a "busy" street. (I use that term loosely but it is the main road to Ten Thousand Waves, ski resort, and many homes on the mountain.)

The rental on Old Santa Fe Trail (Berger St) will be the farthest but it is still considered walking distance, albeit a long walk for me.

My choice for location would be the Otero rental. Then Artist Road and last Santa Fe Trail. BUT they are all good!

Will you have a car? If so, Santa Fe Trail isn't an issue for walking.

Thanks...

We'll probably have a car, but would prefer to just have to use it for our day trips, rather than getting in and out of town.

Based on advice here and research, we're now down to a decision between the Otero place and one of the Casas de Guadalupe, so if anyone has any opinions between those, I'll take them! Am planning to force myself to just choose and reserve by end of this afternoon - can you tell I find it difficult to make these decisions :-)

On the map Guadalupe doesn't look much further than Otero, but it looks like it would be a busier street, so we're still leaning toward just taking the one on Otero.

Thanks again for everyone's help, and I'm sure I'll be back with some itinerary questions. I'll also definitely post after the trip to let you know how things worked out, but that won't be til end of May!

Otero location would be my choice over Guadalupe. But you would enjoy either location I'm sure.

Parking in town really isn't much of an issue unless there is a festival or something but walking is always good.

And don't forget about Ten Thousand Waves. A little bit of heaven in Santa Fe.

I don't remember crossing any major busy streets while we stayed at that casita which is part of the casas de guadalupe. Don't know otero and can only speak of casas de guadalupe. The loft casita was nice with a fireplace and I'm sure the others are like it. It's really up to you at this point.

Thanks again for the responses.

We reserved with the one on Otero St., the Campanilla Compound. It sounds wonderful, and I'll let you know after the trip, if it was!
