Santa Fe travel plans
 

I have read some helpful ideas in trip planning on this site, so I hope that I can get some more. We are planing to spend a few days in Santa Fe in early June. We want to experience some good food, lodging and culture. This will be the middle of our trip, as we will have been in AZ the previous week. Moderate prices are our goal, as this trip (to celebrate our 30th wedding aniversary)is getting lengthy! Is the Santa Fe Sage In nice enough, or the Old SAnta Fe Inn? Is there an area that one would not want to stay in? It sounds like places on Cerrillos Rd are somewhat questionable. We will visit O'Keeffe's place, the Palace of the Governors and the Native Am. vendors, to name a few. I was there w/ my family in the late 60's, as we were stationed at Cannon AFB, in Clovis, NM. As a teacher I like to go and learn as much as I can when in different places.

Mr. Pickle and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on Cerrillos last year, and it was fine - nice room, comfortable bed, and reasonably priced.

What is your lodging budget?

Cerrillos Rd is not "questionable" as far as places to stay. It is a main road, that has lots of traffic and is not quaint.

There are quite a few places on Cerrillos to stay as well as restaurants. They are more pocket friendly and typical of any town but they are not southwestern.

You would need a car if you stayed on Cerrillos to get to the places you want to see.

Santa Fe Sage Inn is a clean and inexpensive choice for lodging. It will be a 10-15 min walk to the plaza or drive and park. A friend stayed there recently and said it was nothing fancy but clean and inexpensive. I just pulled up a weekend date in June on Expedia and you can't beat $58/night.

Cerrillos is a busy and noisy road that I would not want to stay but this place is north of the main areas.


Be sure to visit Museum Hill -- 4 museums: Museum of Indian Arts & Culture, Museum of Spanish Colonial Art, Museum of International Folk Art, Wheelright Museum of the American Indian. There is a nice cafe to take in the spectacular views of Santa Fe and beyond.

Thanks for the responses so far. Our budget ranges from $70 to
$100 ish/night. (What we save, will determine what else we do!) We want to travel and relax, so some of the time spent will be devoted to each. Any more ideas are much appreciated!!

I spent Christmas in Santa Fe and stayed on Cerillos Rd. I was on a budget and went through Priceline and ended up with the Park Inn for $40 a night. It was a budget motel but it was clean and comfortable. There are many budget motels along Cerillos and I think if you are on a budget, they are fine.
It was only a 10 minute drive to the downtown area.
