Santa Fe to Colorado Springs

Next week DH and I plan to drive in one day along route 25 from Santa Fe to Colorado Springs. I know how long Mapquest says it takes to get there. However I'm wondering if locals on this board can advise how long a drive we might realistically expect this to be, allowing for construction and other impediments? Is there one town better than another that would be a good stop for lunch?

Have made the drive Santa Fe to Denver many times. It takes about 4 1/2 hours--depends on how fast you want to drive through northern New Mexico. It's pretty wide open and flat. We usually stop in Trinidad or Pueblo for lunch. Skip the fast food places along I-25 and drive to either downtown--in Trinidad, downtown is east of the highway and in Pueblo it's west

The drive is @ 4 1/2 - 5 hours along I-25. Should have no problems this time of year. I agree with Martym that Trinidad would be a fun place for lunch -- the 'downtown' area has a couple of 'mom/pop' places. Have fun in your travels.
