Santa Fe Restaurants El Farol or La Boca?
Hubby and I are just putting the final touches on a long weekend getaway to Santa Fe. We are liking the idea of enjoying a Tapas place and have narrowed down our selections to El Farol and La Boca.
For the food I think I am leaning toward La Boca, because the long-time chef who started El Farol left during the summer of June 2006 to open La Boca. El Farol would have live music and Nacha Mendez will be performing the evening we have set aside for tapas dining. Is anyone familiar with both places who could give me a comparison? Many thanks, Sharon |
Idea--go to La Boca for the food (food is much better than at El Farol, IMHO) and then to El Farol for after dinner drinks and entertainment.

I agree with martym.
La Boca is fantastic and must have reservations for dinner or lunch. Hands down a new favorite of ours. El Farol is more for a bar and music scene. The food isn't the draw so go after your yummy dinner at La Boca. |
Great idea!!! Thank you, Martym and BeachGirl!
I have reservations at La Boca for this coming Sunday night. Can't wait. We leave tomorrow morning for a long weekend and much needed bit of R&R. Our Saturday evening reservations are at Coyote Grill - the chef's counter - where we can watch chef Eric DiStefano work his magic. I think I have a nice lineup for places to eat... The Shed, Pasquals, and maybe Bobcat Bites (lunch choices) Dinners as mentioned above. Some time at Ten Thousand Waves and a couple trips to Sage Bakehouse. We plan to do some hiking and gallery hopping, and sitting next to a fire. Rest and Relaxation ... here we come! - Sharon |
I ate at La Boca in November. The food was wonderful.

Sounds like a good plan, Sharon. I didn't list Coyote Cafe as all the locals said it's really hit and miss right now. Sitting at the counter should make it a fun time though.
And if you like molé Pasqual's molé chicken enchiladas are delicious. (plate-licking good actually!) Have a great time! |
La Boca is all the buzz says my friend who lives in Santa Fe. He used to be the chef at El Farol and he is doing a great job and getting great local and nationwide reviews.
