Santa Fe restaurant dress code

Hi all,
We are leaving tonight for 4 nights in Santa Fe. We have dinner reservations tomorrow at Restaurant Martin, and Sunday at Geronimo. How dressy do you think we need to be? I am packing some black slacks, but my husband was only planning to bring jeans (very nice designer jeans though, with nice button downs). Is that too casual do you think? Thanks for your help! I'll report back after the trip what all we end up doing.

I've been to both, most recently Restaurant Martin, where as I recall, I wore jeans. Not a problem. If he wears a nice sweater over that shirt, I think your husband will be comfortable with jeans at Geronimo too.

Thank you!

In New Mexico, we have a saying, "Formal is when you put a crease in your jeans." If there's ever a question, I just give the restaurant a call directly. I often prefer to dress up a bit, but I've seen other people in jeans when I've been in something approaching cocktail dress.

Santa Fe can be a most casual town. I agree with ChileAddict in giving the restaurant a call just to ease your mind. Enjoy!

beckytx - we spent a few days last year in Santa Fe for New Years Eve. I expect we saw people more dressed up then we ever have in visits to Santa Fe at other times of the year, but it was still pretty casual. As ChileAddict noted, we did see a fair number of nicely-creased jeans...

One thing that did strike me is the way so many people dressed up in fur-trimmed jackets/outerwear. Lots of nice winter scarves, too. Made those jeans look spectacular.

For New Years dinner in La Fonda's restaurant, DH wore khakis with a sweater and button-down, I wore corduroys, a nice sweater, and a pretty scarf. We were pretty much in the middle of the dress for that (usually formal) night. Other times, it was strictly jeans.

You should be be fine. Think cowboy/ski area look.

We are pretty easy going, as most everyone has said. You can dress up if you want or go in nice, casual wear and be absolutely ok for Restaurant Martin.

I personally think that for Geronimo, your husband might want to do slacks instead of jeans.

Comfort, warmth are paramount. I don't do fur, but it is going to be cold. It's snowing now. Hats, gloves, scarves are a must.

Have fun!
