Santa Fe rentals
We will be in Santa Fe over Thanksgiving and are looking to rent a townhouse/apartment. We would need 3 bedrooms/2 baths, sleeping 6. Prefer a first floor master since we will be bringing my elderly mother.
Any recommendations regarding best areas to stay? We will have a car, but we also enjoy being able to walk to attractions (or at least a few restaurants/coffee shops). On VRBO, I see listings for rentals near the "Railyard" or "Plaza", but I am not sure which area would be preferable. Would also consider something out of town with a great view, if driving into town is not too challenging (e.g., parking). How is driving and parking, given that we would be there over a holiday? Thanks. |
There is a beautiful little house, called the Hobbit House. I've always wanted to stay there. Will see if I can find the link.

Isn't that the cutest place? 3 bdrms and 2 baths, sleeps 6. I am dying to stay there!

That Hobbit House is cute! Unfortunately, I am not sure the sleeping arrangements will work, since we do need some twins.

Santa Fe is very quirky; the houses can vary greatly from one to another, even on the same street.
Near the Plaza is usually a good location; the Railyard is a bit removed from the Plaza. You want to be within walking distance of the Plaza as parking is can be really bad especially for holiday. IF your mother isn't that great a walker, the Railyard will necessitate a car. |
Take a look at the website for Kokopelli Property Management.
We rented a three bedroom apartment/condo in the El Corozon complex from them several years ago: three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, one (not the master) was on the main floor; living room with fireplace; dining room; excellent kitchen; two garage parking spaces. Ours seems to be no longer listed but this one is in the same complex-- http://www.kokoproperty.com/vrentals...earch.hottub:0 The complex is just a few blocks from the Plaza shops, restaurants, and museums. We walked to almost all our city destinations. We loved Santa Fe and all of us--a 40-ish couple and their parents--agreed it was an ideal choice for our 'destination holiday.' Some of us stayed in the city the entire time; others included skiing at Taos and hiking at Bandolier. (I prefer renting from an agency unless I've had strong recommendations regarding an individual listing like VRBO. I want to have a manager/office to deal with should issues arise.) |
VRBO listings at El Corazon--

Thanks for the suggestions - these all look lovely. I can't wait.

Most of the management companies now put their listings on VRBO too, so you won't miss anything if you call a management company, and the good ones will help you figure out where you want to be and the best house to suit your needs.
Being near the Plaza is everyone's first choice, but if you want to rent a house, what they call the historic East Side is close to Canyon Road, usually within a mile of the Plaza (and you are on vacation -- you're going to be doing some walking!) |
