Santa Fe or Sedona?

Hi,

My friends and I are planning a girls' trip this fall and we're trying to decide between Santa Fe and Sedona. We're all between 35 & 45, mostly adventurous and open minded. I've been to Santa Fe before and loved it, and my friend is interested in Sedona but has never been there before. Has anyone been to both places, and if so, what did you like/dislike about each? What I love about Santa Fe is the scenery, hiking, food, arts, cultural diversity, and the unique people and attitudes. Thanks! Heidi

We've been to both places and you just cannot compare them. Sedona is more nature than town. S.Fe is a lovely town where you can do everything on foot. Not so far from Taos also worth visiting.Paul

Santa Fe for arts, shopping and many fine restaurants.

For absolutely beautiful scenery and hiking, choose Sedona. The town is much smaller than Santa Fe and has a few galleries but mostly tourist shops.

Thank you for the replies. I didn't realize Sedona was that much smaller. Is there anything to do there at night? Us girls love to hike, but we also like to live it up a little at night.

I prefer Sedona but if I was planning a girl's trip I would choose Santa Fe. The town is really charming, fun shops, nice restaurants, lots and lots of galleries.

The hiking and scenery are much more spectacular in Sedona. We also stayed at the Enchantment Resort that was fabulous.

Santa Fe has a population of over 68,000, while Sedona has just over 11,000. Both figures are 2004 Census Bureau estimates. so that is a huge difference.

Sedona is dead at night. Much more a place to do scenery and hiking and then have a quiet nite. Not so much a happening place for a girls trip.

Sedona might be too quiet for you all. I think Santa Fe offers you more variety.

If you willing to consider someplace other than Santa Fe and Sedona, Tucson is a great place to visit.

they are both garbage, I would opt for a explorer or rav4

Thank you for all the info everyone! Based on the feedback, we've decided to go to Santa Fe for the girls' trip, and I'll save Sedona for a more relaxing nature trip with my husband. :)

Don't forget a side ride up to Chimayo (get chili pepper and go to the church and rug place) Rancho Chimayo has great reviews for lunch. ALso look up the flea market near the opera house! There's also a spa 10,000 something, I forget the name. If you have time, drive the turquoise trail through madrid on the way back to albq. I didn't find the Coyote grill all that terrific. But there is a great shoe store on the other side of the main road near a pretty good diner. Ask whe you get there! Have fun.
