Santa Fe Opera . . . how dressy for men?

Sorry, ladies, but I'm inquiring about the appropriate dress code for men. I haven't been to the SF Opera in 20 years. Do most men wear suits now? I'm pushing 60, so it's with tongue in cheek when I say "I'm not talking about rich old men, who nearly always overdress, but about the rest."

This would be for a Saturday night late in the season--maybe the final weekend. I'm wondering if I'll feel out of place with a blazer, open-neck sports shirt (or mock turtle) and slacks. Thanks.

Sounds fine to me...remember it's Santa Fe and we do "business" casual here in SW. {I hope you have tickets already}

Hope this helps...

I would probably wear a dark suit.

I am sure you can wear a suit, but for the 5+ years I lived in NM, I can count on one hand how many {ok maybe 2 hands}times I saw men in suits at social functions...not even at weddings or funerals...and usually not even at work.

Best suggestion, where what you are comfortable in!

Hope this helps...

Shoot, I meant to add...not sure you are from SF, but do remember it gets cool at night and since the Opera is technically outdoor...dress accordingly.

Hope this helps...

We were there a few weeks ago. Anything goes. There were men in jeans and men in fancy white suits with purple shirts! My husband wore nice slacks and a linen shirt and he fit right in. Wear whatever you are comfortable in and don't worry about it. Same goes for the ladies. By the way, it got quite chilly at night out there --- bring a light jacket.

Hey abqdeb...seems like we are both ABQ Deb's and we think alike :o)

Debi,

No kidding! Our posts crossed paths too. I guess we were both answering at the same time.

Great minds.......

Thanks to all. I've been to Santa Fe half a dozen times, though to the opera only once long ago, and I'm pretty sure I would feel overdressed in a dark suit, so I appreciate the near-unanimous affirmation. Thanks also for the reminder on the nippy nights.

There's always the popular opening night look - tuxedo jacket/shirt/studs/cufflinks; bolo tie; blue jeans; cowboy boots and hat. :-)

The last time we went, Mr. Pickle wore slacks and a nice shirt.

Last night when we were there, some men wore jackets w/o ties. Definitely no ties, but this was apprentice night. It was chilly particluarly in lower level orch where wind can blow straight across open area. What a beautiful setting, even with lightening striking in the distance when singers hit their high notes! Indian Market was also amazing yesterday!
