Santa Fe, NM; traffic
 

Hello,

I'm considering staying at Santa Fe's Los Campos RV Resort. I like the idea that we can hop on a bus to the historic part without without taking the RV.

However, I keep reading about the terrible traffic in Santa Fe. So would staying here be too difficult to visit Bandelier and Los Alamos Science Center because of traffic?

We'll be going to Santa Fe from Chaco Culture NP. After Santa Fe, we'll be heading to ABQ to return our RV before flying home. We'll be staying at Santa Fe Mon + Tue nights.

Any insight from Santa Fe locals care greatly appreciated.

I live in NM, not Santa Fe, but visit there often. The traffic is only bad during work rush hour. Remember, a lot of traffic to us is five cars in front of you. Can you imagine what we'd think of rush hour in LA? There are lots of one way streets, but we did just fine with our motor home there on a weekend. Parking wasn't fun, but we managed.

We'll be there the end of June. Regarding work rush hour traffic, am I right to assume that there will be traffic going into town in the morning and leaving town in the afternoon? If so, then staying in town will actually make us opposite to traffic?!

I believe you're right about traffic flow, but Cerrillos seems to be the street that has the heaviest traffic - and of course the Plaza area in the summer. I don't know where Los Campos is located, but you can take St. Michael's, St. Francis, or other streets to avoid Cerrillos. Someone who actually lives in Santa Fe could probably give you more accurate information.

As I said in an earlier post, you shouldn't have any problems driving to Bandelier and Los Alamos.

santa fe is not large. i always stay on cerrillos. the traffic on cerrillos road is heavier going out from downtown at evening rush hour. i do not notice a.m. since i get started later. there are left turn lanes all along so traffic generally runs smoothly. rush hour is nothing compared to other cities. i never thought of it as "rush hour."

highway 285 north to espanola is being reconstructed but traffic moves along without delays.
