Haven't been to Santa Fe in a long time. Are the old timers still good. What are the best restaurants now, not only New Mexican food??

My favorites are:
Tia Sophia
Cafe Pasqual for lunch or dinner
Anasazi on the patio
La Boca -- one of my favorite Santa Fe restaurants
Rio Chama or Del Charro for a steak burger or bar experience
The Shed - I like the ambiance better than La Choza
Bistro 315
Upper Crust Pizza
Andiamo!
Geronimo - I have to give it another shot as it can't be open if it's that bad every day






Tia Sophia's for New Mexican breakfast and lunch.
Tomasita's - not a great ambiance but the food delivers my much needed red and green chile cravings.
Cafe Pasqual's - love their lunches and dinners more than breakfasts
Blue Corn Cafe - still a reliable spot for lunch and dinner
Coyote Cantina - a good spot for drinks and appetizers. Service is still slow and spotty.
Coyote Cafe -- chef Eric DiStefano from Geronimo has brought this back to life. It isn't the best but should give you a very nice dinner spot
Geronimo -- Chef Eric is back in the picture but I don't think it's as good as it was even last year. Maybe they just stumbled this summer, I don't know.
Andiamo! - always a good idea for Italian
Amavi - nice Italian in the spot where Julian's used to be on Shelby Street. Romantic atmosphere.
SantaCafe - hit or miss for us every single time.
The Compound - haven't been in over a year but I hear it is still good.
*La Boca -- LOVE this restaurant! The chefs love this restaurant. Wonderful Spanish menu. He used to be the chef at El Farol for many years.
El Farol - still a favorite. I just love the ambiance of it.
*Bistro 315 - This French bistro always delivers for us.
Ore House - margaritas and chips kind of place for us.
The Shed - love the ambiance and shed red!
La Choza - sister restaurant to The Shed is still good as well
The Bar at Rio Chama - great burgers and steaks. Good spot if you want to watch a game, too.
Pink Adobe -- well, the Dragon Room bar definitely lost its charm when it sold to the group that owns Five Graces behind it. Food is ok and it has a lovely outdoor dining area now.
Cowgirl Cafe - always consistently good and fun atmosphere
Del Charro Saloon - fun bar that serves great burgers and great atmosphere
Tesuque Village Market - was really good then it's fallen off. Hit and miss. I don't know what to say about a place that allows their kitchen to run out of red sauce. In New Mexico!
Fuego's at La Posada - if you want a multi-course gourmet meal this is the spot. Excellent service and a delicious meal
Harry's Roadhouse - I love this quirky spot that serves a little of everything.
Il Piatto - another good Italian restaurant.
Maria's -- the margaritas are still the strongest in town, I think.
La Casa Sena - we don't go as often but it is still a wonderful setting with a great wine list and menu.
Ristra - has been good for us but a friend just returned and said it wasn't good all around the table.
Sleeping Dog Tavern - another spot that gives us a great meal without a lot of fluff.
Upper Crust Pizza - still serving up the best pizza Santa Fe style. I never thought I would have pizza in Santa Fe but boy am I glad I did. Green chile, chorizo and red onion on wheat.

Sorry this is so long but you hit a topic I'm quite fond of -- Santa Fe and food!
I'm sure I've left something out. There are many new restaurants we haven't hit yet.

Best meal that I had was at the Plaza Cafe.

Plaza cafe - it is a diner with the usual diner food and a few NM things. Sorry, there is much better to be had in Santa Fe than Plaza Cafe. To each their own, I guess. That is why there is red and green [chile].

The food at the Plaza Cafe is very delicious and not "the usual diner food" that DebitNM makes it out to be.

Pam, a good chunk of the Plaza Cafe *is* typical diner food, though they do have a good selection of other things as well. I've really enjoyed both meals I've eaten there - both with Fodorites, too! :-)

But when most people visit Santa Fe, Plaza Cafe isn't the first restaurant that comes to mind, unless you're on a pretty tight budget. It's good, but it's not Cafe Pasqual or Bistro 315 or Coyote Cafe, you know?

To each their own, but I'd rather have really great food for a reasonable price than pay lots of money for mediocre food.

The Museum Hill Cafe is great too.

My wife and I enjoyed the Caramel Pecan Apple pie at the Plaza Cafe. One slice can feed two people.

New kid on the block Milagro 139, midrange prices, ample portions, great look, live music after 10p, check it out!

Oh Santa Fe...to die for. I second La Boca, SO good. Amavi is really up and coming and great atmosphere,...wine seward, Mark Johnson so good (from Nashville, my home). El Farol fun. LOVED Coyote Cafe, but sit at bar and watch them make the meals, poetry. Compound is still very good. We stayed at Inn at Alameda...fabulous breakfast and afternoon cocktail hour included. Very romantic.

I eat at La Choza every time I go to Santa Fe. It is right across from Sage Inn where I stay and is just a down home, friendly, good portions, great food, concrete floor, very colorful, inexpensive kind of place.

I really like El Farol too, esp. on nights when there is good music in the bar- that place is hopping and has such a nice crowd of locals. Love dining on their outdoor patio in back. Great place after strolling on Canyon Rd. or hiking up on Upper Canyon Rd. at the Audobon Center.

I also like the La Casa Sena, great place to stop after strolling the plaza. Love the bar food there - great cheese plates w/figs and goodies added and other yummies to go w/the great wines. And the restaurant is also very good. And I love that they have a wine store right in the same little complex, and you can ship home good wines that are hard to find from there, or get a good bottle to take back to your room!

Also like Sleeping Dog Tavern - I have met some nice fellow travelers and locals there also.

I want to go back! Had a work trip to ABQ w/side trip to SF planned for Nov. but it fell off the radar.

La Choza is wonderful: relaxed, easy, fun, buzzy, good food...see if Jennifer is bar-tending. she could run the whole place herself, she is so together, but everyone there has a great vibe. our most enjoyable night in SF. Not so, Cafe Psqual! Fingernails on a restaurant blackboard. Attitude to the max. Ugh. The food is nothing special, though it's not bad either, nor is it inexpensive for what it is. Think organic roadhouse. Nevertheless, that is one unpleasant restaurant crew.

suite7, sorry to hear you had such a terrible evening at Pasqual's. Nothing worse than servers with attitudes! But, usually, her food is much better than that.

For a casual but very tasty breakfast or lunch (they serve dinner, too, but we haven't tried it), in a nice setting with a great attitude (!), we liked Cafe Dominic near the Railyard area.

Just returned from 5 days in Santa Fe.Some places we liked: Gallisteo Bistro, a new restaurant (on Gallisteo St.) was excellent, fairly priced and had a wonderfully attentive, knowledgeable staff. La Plazuela in the LaFonda Hotel: Great atmosphere, friendly waitstaff..loved the tableside custom-mixed guacamole. On the flip side, there was the Pink Adobe: terribly understaffed and overpriced for the food we received. They are coasting on their former reputation. The Plaza Cafe: a run of the mill ordinary diner in a great location.
