Santa Fe - La Posada or Ten Thousand Waves?
 

<BR>Hi all - <BR> <BR>I am planning a romantic weekend escape to Santa Fe in December (gonna propose!) and have narrowed it down to La Posada and Ten Thousand Waves. I'm looking for something unique, subtle, stylish, memorable - which do you think is best? Thanks! Also, how far is the drive from Albuq. to Santa Fe? Not too bad?

I don't know about the hotels, but the drive from Albuquerque is easy and takes about an hour on the Interstate. The only possible problem with the drive is road construction at the intersection of I40 and I25 (called the Big I). Just make sure to get a map.

Ten thousand waves -- definitely. I consider it to be one of the best spa experiences of my life. <BR> <BR>Be forewarned, though -- the sauna they show you to prior to treatments is NOT unisex. Learned that one the hard way.

Just realized I may have misunderstood your question. Are you looking for accommodations? I didn't realize they had accommodations at Ten Thousand Waves, but was recommending it for spa treatments. <BR> <BR>For accommodations, I stayed at the Inn of the Anasazi and thought it was fabulous.

<BR>Thanks for the comments - I am in fact looking for a place to stay. Ten Thousand Waves has a few isolated cabins, and that's what I'm thinking about. Thanks!

Nick, the restaurant at the Inn of the Anazazi is very nice also.

I would stay at LaPosada, but do try the spa at 10,000 waves. LP's spa is also very very nice. Be sure not to get a room on the street side of LP--too noisy. I highly recommend their spa suites--very luxurious. A big plus for LP is its convenience to everything, although it feels like you're far from town because of the extensive grounds.

Okay, butting in again to say that if you stay at 10,000 waves, you will be outside of town. I took a cab there from Inn of the Anasazi. It's not a long cab ride, but it means that you won't be able to walk to restaurants/bars or other attractions. <BR> <BR>Another plug for Anasazi -- it's a beautiful, full service hotel. Wonderful restaurant, nice bar, great concierge.

I've stayed at 10,000 Waves and highly recommend it. You are outside of town, but not that far (10 minutes at most). In fact, being outside of town is nice as you can feel like you are truly away from everything. <BR> <BR>The rooms are fabulous, decorated in Japanese style, come with fridge, coffee/tea, soaps, lotions, and you can check out videos at the desk for the VCR's. I think each one has a fireplace, too, stocked with wood. It is an unusual experience and one your fiance and you will never forget. <BR> <BR>December will be lovely, too, esp. if there is snow. The tubs are outside, and open to the mountain. There is a good chance you'll see wildlife. <BR> <BR>The drive from ABQ to SFe is an hour, and the construction in ABQ is fine, except at rush hour. You don't need a map to get to SFe, although you might want one of the City Different while you are there. <BR> <BR>Have a grand time!
