My husband and I are thinking of going to Santa Fe, NM for our anniversary in April. We'd like to go somewhere romantic - would SF fit the bill? Any recommendations for a romantic place to stay? How will the weather be towards the end of April? Thanks for any info. you can provide. We enjoy being active, art, good restaurants; this would just be for a long weekend, so no budget constraints really. We're also considering New York or Seattle, so just gathering info. and trying to decide.

It's a fantastic place for a long weekend for a couple! Great hotels, restaurants, spas, wonderful museums, art galleries (just walking up Canyon Rd. and in and out of galleries can be a whole day's activity) and shopping, very compact (or you can do the outskirts if you have a car and want to). I love Santa Fe. I don't have any specific recommendations, because we were there with our daughter -- not a couples weekend.

My wife and I took an anniversary trip to Santa Fe several years ago. Liked it enough that we now don't need a special occasion reason to go back. So, we're going again this fall for the 4th time in 5 years. Santa Fe's got everything you say you're looking for.

If budget isn't an issue, I'd suggest Inn of Five Graces: http://www.fivegraces.com/. Charming little place with I think the best location in town. Inn on the Alameda would be nice, too: http://www.inn-alameda.com/.

Wow, it sounds just like what we're looking for. I've always wanted to go because I'm a Georgia O'Keeffe fan, and I've wanted to go to the museum there. Are most of the restaurants and galleries clustered in a certain part of town?

A lot of the restaurants are downtown near the Plaza. There are also galleries there, but the main concentration is on Canyon Road.

For a unique experience; Shidoni Brass Foundry, just north of SF [and be sure to have breakfast or lunch at Tesuque Village Market, just north of foundry.] Tesuque Flea Market is really a good one with lots of interesting, non-typical flea market finds [southwestern things]

Weather wise:

April might be a tad cool, but should be sunny during the days and at that altitude, the sun makes it feel much warmer. It will be cool in early morning and then again as the sun goes down - so dress in layers. Casual is the key here and be sure to drink lots of water so you can adjust to the altitude. It also can be windy at that time of year.

Note that the "bottom" of Canyon Road is easy walking distance from the Plaza.

Thanks, everyone - I'm going to explore all the links and information you're providing. I'm definitely intrigued by Santa Fe.
