santa fe first week in January 2007 question
We'll be in Santa Fe and Taos for 3 days next week...Jan. 5,6,7.
Does anyone know if "some" of the Christmas lights and decorations will still be up.?
AND, a weather question! though no really knows, do they? We like cold weather,...any storms coming that you know of.?. We can check this ourselves, but those who might live in or near that area might shed some light on USUAL weather the first of January.

I doubt you'll see any Christmas decorations - luminarias only last for a few hours and I'm sure the businesses will have removed them if they haven't already.
As for weather, your guess is as good as mine. It was sunny and cool in Albuquerque today; I haven't heard anything about approaching storms, but it will be cold no matter what.
Have a great time!

Santa Fe -- Highs during the day -- low 40's. At night, it get very cold....high teens and low 20's. If the sun is out during the day, it will feel a bit warmer. Dressing in layers is always a good thing.

Taos - colder than Santa Fe; high in 30's; low in single digits or low teens; greater chance of snow there:

We have been getting some storms here in SW over the past week -- next week? You guess is as good as ours.
As Lee Ann said, most of the "Christmas" lights will be gone, however, some places will have those white twinkle or rope lights on as they seem to have become 365 items.
Hope this helps...

Hi Mari, with the BIG snow here a few days ago in Santa Fe, its starting to get a little messy so bring so all-weather boots. Lots of slush beginning. But still lights up in the plaza and luminarias (fake ones) are still around the plaza.
Heard there was supposed to be another snow tonight (tues) but haven't seen a sign of it -- clear skies and cold (low 14/high 32). In a word -- beautiful.
Have a great time. The skiing is fabulous with all the new snow -- 26 inches in Santa Fe and a little more in Taos.

Normally, the snow is gone within a day or so since the sun is strong here and it gets above freezing during the day. The big problem can be if it doesn't dry up completely, cause then it all freezes at night.
I just got to ABQ today for a quick visit and there is still TONS of snow. The main roads are all fine, but lots of side streets, sidewalks and parking lots still have lots of snow. To make matters worse, cars have driven on the stuff, packed it down and now it is slushy and icy.
It is most likely the same in Santa Fe now.
This is the most snow ABQ has had in over 50 years. I was amazed as I drove in today from Colorado.
so, the short answer is: for normal, couple of inches type snow -- it's gone in a day or so in town.
Hope this helps...
